Job summary

Birch Family Services seeks an experienced School Psychologist for the Mill Basin Early Childhood Center in Brooklyn, NY. This part-time role requires a Graduate Degree and NYS School Psychology certification and license.

You will provide individual play therapy, classroom consultations, crisis intervention, and behavioral feedback to teachers, parents, and administrators. You will also oversee parent education sessions and participate in interdisciplinary collaboration.

Qualifications

• Master’s Degree in psychology or a related field.
• NYSS School Psychology certification and NYS Psychology License.
• 2–5 years of experience working with pre‑school aged students.

Responsibilities

• Provides individual play therapy to students with behavioral, social and emotional delays, plus parent consultations.
• Consults with teachers, parents, staff on social, behavioral, emotional and developmental issues.
• Provides psychological services in the classroom including crisis intervention and behavior plans.
• Develops group behavior management plans and supervises student externs as assigned.
• Maintains timely clinical documentation following ethical guidelines and attends meetings.
• Acts as a child advocate during EI, CPSE, and/or CSE processes.

Responsibilities

Provides individual play therapy to students with behavioral, social and emotional delays, as well as ongoing parent consultation on an as needed basis.

Provides consultation with teachers, teaching assistants, parents, related services staff, and administrators regarding social, behavioral, emotional and developmental issues and gives feedback about interpersonal dynamics when appropriate.

Provides psychological services to the classroom, including consultation, intermittent emotional curriculum, crisis intervention, and behavior management plans.

Provides psychological evaluations, screenings, and updates on children referred to Birch, as well as those currently matriculated.

Designs and implements group behavior management plans for all classrooms; individual behavior management plans may be developed for severe management problems.

Provides in‑service training for staff and parents on relevant topics (e.g., child development, team dynamics, interpersonal problem‑solving).

Participates in interdisciplinary team meetings.

Functions as a child advocate for children and families during the EI, CPSE, and/or CSE process.

Attends and participates in departmental meetings, supervision and school meetings.

Attends any additional meetings, activities or functions of the school as designated by supervisory staff.

Maintains timely clinical documentation following ethical and clinical guidelines (e.g., written reports, therapy notes).

Provides supervision of student externs as assigned.

Maintains clean and organized work areas and common areas.
