Job summary

Blanton Museum of Art at the University of Texas at Austin seeks a Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art to lead a key curatorial area and join the senior management team. The curator will oversee research, exhibitions, collecting strategy, and rotating gallery displays in modern and contemporary art, collaborating with curators of Latin American Art and Prints & Drawings.

You will build relationships with artists, scholars, and institutions, contribute to fundraising and strategic planning,

Qualifications

• Master's degree in art history or related field or a bachelor's degree with equivalent professional experience.
• At least seven years of museum experience with publications and public presentations.
• Deep knowledge of American and international modern and contemporary art.
• Strong scholarship, writing, and communication skills.
• Experience managing budgets and fundraising.

Responsibilities

• Organize exhibitions and installations with collection objects, loans, and commissions.
• Define and implement a vision for the modern and contemporary art collection.
• Build relationships with artists and national/international institutions.
• Develop interpretive strategies and public programs with Education and Academic Affairs.
• Conduct original research and supervise guest curators, visiting scholars, interns, and student researchers.
• Support fundraising efforts and manage related budgets and records.
