Job summary

Schwab seeks a Senior Security Architect to serve as the technical authority for Crypto Custody engineering, owning key management and security architecture across digital asset platforms. This role centers on designing and enforcing custody controls, disaster recovery, and policy governance.

You will partner with Cybersecurity, Risk, and Operations to implement secure, auditable, and scalable custody solutions, leveraging AI tools to boost engineering rigor and speed.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of software engineering experience with deep specialization in security-sensitive or cryptographic systems.
• Strong hands-on experience with HSMs, MPC frameworks, and secure key management systems.
• Experience with Web3 security tooling such as Slither, Mythril, Foundry Fuzzing.
• Experience with common cryptography implementation languages such as C, C++, Rust, Go.
• Experience collaborating with security auditors (e.g., Trail of Bits, Halborn).
• Proven ability to design systems where failure has material risk implications.
• Strong grounding in distributed systems, secure architectures, and fault-tolerant design.
• Track record of acting as a technical authority without formal people management.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and evolve institutional-grade key management architectures using HSMs and MPC.
• Define custody cryptographic models for hot, warm, and cold storage.
• Ensure cryptographic designs align with regulatory, security, and audit expectations.
• Embed defense-in-depth and zero-trust principles with Cybersecurity and Risk teams.
• Lead the design of the Custody Policy Engine: authorization, approvals, limits, and segregation of duties.
• Translate business, legal, and risk requirements into enforceable technical controls.
• Own custody-specific disaster recovery strategies and incident response runbooks.
• Partner with Operations, Security, and SRE to ensure tested recovery procedures.
• Act as the custody architecture authority across wallets, blockchains, environments, and platforms.
• Leverage GenAI to accelerate architecture design, threat modeling, documentation, testing, and reviews.
