Job summary

Helix BioStructures, LLC is seeking a Senior Scientist focused on cryo-EM to lead structure determination on client programs in Indianapolis. You will optimize samples, collect and process data, build and validate models, and deposit EMDB/PDB entries.

A portion of time involves expressing/purifying proteins to cryo-EM-grade quality to support projects. You will mentor junior staff, set technical standards, and present results to clients, helping scope feasibility for prospective work.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. in structural biology or related field with 4+ years cryo-EM experience.
• Proven independent end-to-end single-particle cryo-EM from sample to final structure.
• Proficiency in grid preparation and vitrification (Vitrobot/Chameleon).
• Experience collecting data on 200 kV/300 kV microscopes (Glacios/Krios) using EPU/SerialEM.
• Proficiency in single-particle processing with cryoSPARC and/or RELION.
• Model building, refinement and EMDB/PDB depositions with Coot, Phenix, ISOLDE.
• Recombinant protein expression and purification for cryo-EM-grade samples.
• Ability to mentor and manage timelines for client-facing deliverables.
• Excellent written and oral communication; client-facing.

Responsibilities

• Own cryo-EM structure determination from samples to coordinates.
• Express and purify proteins for cryo-EM-grade samples.
• Write technical reports and present results to clients.
• Mentor junior staff and establish technical standards.
• Interface with clients for feasibility and project scoping.
• Ensure timely updates and formal reporting to customers.
• Prepare SOPs for sample prep, data collection, processing.
