Job description

About The Job

The Sr CRM Solution Architect for Commercial and Medical functions at Foundation Medicine serves as the internal expert in CRM configuration, business process, and technical delivery. This role leads the planning, implementation, and ongoing support of enterprise business platforms supporting Commercial and Medical, with a strong emphasis on Salesforce.com and related modules.

This is a hybrid role that pairs portfolio oversight with hands-on solution delivery. On the portfolio side, the Sr CRM Solution Architect maintains strong portfolio and project hygiene, assesses and qualifies new project requests, collaborates on business cases development, and navigates the intake, funding, and approval processes required to move work forward. The role contributes to department capacity planning, resource forecasting, and staffing coordination across internal teams and delivery partners so initiatives are appropriately prioritized, sequenced, and staffed.

On the delivery side, the Sr CRM Solution Architect provides Salesforce functional architecture and configuration expertise, translates business requirements into scalable, compliant solutions, leads platform implementations and enhancements, and ensures reliable ongoing application support. The role is accountable for solutions that are well-designed, well-documented, and sustainable.

The successful candidate combines Salesforce.com platform expertise with the discipline to run a structured portfolio in a regulated life sciences environment. The candidate is comfortable moving between an executive funding discussion and a hands-on design or configuration session in the same day.

Key Responsibilities
  • Salesforce Functional Architecture & Configuration
    • Serve as an internal subject matter expert for Salesforce functional architecture, data model, security model, and configuration standards
    • Partner with implementation teams to translate Commercial and Medical business requirements into scalable, maintainable solution designs that align to enterprise architecture and data governance principles
    • Perform and review hands-on configuration (objects, fields, flows, validation rules, page layouts, profiles and permissions, reports and dashboards)
    • Define and enforce standards for integrations between Salesforce and clinical, quality, marketing, and data platforms
  • Solution Delivery & Implementation
    • Lead planning and execution of platform implementations, migrations, and enhancement releases from requirements through deployment and hyper-care
    • Own requirements gathering, functional design, user story definition, and acceptance criteria in partnership with business process owners
    • Partner with IT departments to drive release management, environment strategy, testing, and validation activities in line with change-control and quality requirements
    • Partner with business teams to provide user adoption activities including training materials, documentation, and post-release reinforcement
  • Portfolio Management & Governance
    • Partner with IT Strategy and Enablement team to maintain portfolio and project hygiene across the Commercial and Medical technology portfolio, including accurate status, scope, milestones, risks, dependencies, and financials
    • Assess incoming project and enhancement requests for feasibility, effort, and platform fit
    • Partner with business units to develop business case and investment proposals, and navigate intake, governance, and approval processes to secure funding and executive endorsement
    • Partner with IT Strategy Enablement on annual planning, budgeting, and portfolio prioritization
  • Capacity Planning, Resource Forecasting & Staffing
    • Forecast demand and model capacity across internal staff, managed service providers, and implementation partners
    • Coordinate staffing and resource allocation to ensure initiatives are appropriately prioritized and supported, escalating constraints and trade-offs early
    • Assist with managing vendors including scopes of work, deliverables, and performance; hold delivery partners accountable to quality, timeline, and cost commitments
  • Business Partnership & Compliance
    • Partner across Commercial, Medical, IT, Quality, Clinical, Finance, and vendor teams to align priorities, resolve issues, and build trust-based working relationships
    • Communicate technical concepts in business terms to stakeholders at all levels, including senior leadership
