Job summary

Stantec is seeking a skilled and motivated mid-career Staff Archaeologist with 3–5 years CRM field experience in California to join our Environmental Services Cultural Resources Team.

This full-time position offers opportunities to lead office-based and field compliance efforts for major utilities, as well as support all phases of cultural resource management (CRM), including survey, testing, data recovery, and construction monitoring.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree required in anthropology/archaeology or related field.
• 3–5 years CRM field experience in California.
• Registered Professional Archaeologist preferred.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a key team member on utilities compliance contracts and other projects.
• Support pedestrian surveys, test excavations, data recovery, and construction monitoring.
• Assist in reporting (CEQA/Section 106), tracking, execution, and review of projects.
• Aid in project planning, scheduling, and logistics for field efforts.
• Oversee and mentor junior field staff, ensuring professional standards.
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local cultural resource regulations.
• Coordinate with project managers, agency representatives, tribal monitors, and construction crews as needed.
• Follow health and safety protocols for field operations.
