The City of High Point Police Department seeks a Crime Scene Unit Supervisor to lead Crime Scene Technicians in examining and investigating crime scenes and accidents, ensuring proper procedures and accountable documentation. Strong leadership and forensic expertise are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in forensic science, biology, chemistry, criminal justice, or closely related field.
• Six years of experience in crime scene processing.
• Must be in good standing with current agency with no serious written reprimands within the last year.
• Must be able to work crime scenes with graphic violence.
• Knowledge of federal and state laws and department rules and regulations.
• Ability to assign, direct, and supervise subordinate personnel; communicate courteously with the public; maintain records and prepare reports.
• Excellent oral and written communication and computer skills.
• Advanced knowledge of rules of evidence.
• Advanced knowledge of photography.
• Ability to measure distances for accurate crime scene sketches.
• Proficiency in using issued equipment; strong forensic methods knowledge.
• Polygraph and background investigation required.
• Valid North Carolina Driver’s License; transfer of out-of-state license within 60 days.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate daily activities of the Crime Scene Unit and supervise technicians.
• Direct and review the collection and preservation of physical evidence.
• Maintain personnel records and conduct performance appraisals.
• Train Crime Scene Technicians and oversee field training programs.
• Testify in court as an expert witness on crime scene processing and evidence.
