Job summary

Salt Lake County seeks a Senior Forensic Analyst to support crime scene processing and evidence collection. The role may lead a focused area and requires expertise in latent prints, DNA, and documentation.

Requirements include a forensic science degree, 3+ years of crime lab experience (or 7 years in lieu), and IAI certification within one year. Phlebotomy license and Utah driver’s license are required; a background check and drug testing apply.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in forensic science, Criminalistics, Biology, Chemistry, or related field.
• Three years of experience in crime lab techniques; or seven years of experience in crime lab techniques.
• Must be IAI Certified Crime Scene Investigator at hire; obtain certification within one year.
• Phlebotomy license at hire or within one year; valid Utah driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Process crime scenes for latent prints, trace evidence, DNA and other physical evidence.
• Document scenes with photography, notes, sketches and 3-D diagrams as needed.
• Manage evidence and chain of custody per SOPs and Daubert criteria.
• Conduct latent fingerprint searches using ABIS or similar systems.
• Write reports and prepare exhibits for court; may provide expert testimony.
• Respond to hospitals and medical examiners for evidence collection.
