Job summary

Commercial Banking Company in Georgia is seeking a senior credit analyst to support the lending function. This highly analytical role reviews personal and corporate financial statements, credit reports, appraisals, tax returns, and market data to assess credit risk.

The candidate will prepare underwriting memos, analyze loan relationships, mentor junior staff, and assist with collections and annual reviews while ensuring compliance with banking regulations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in business field (Accounting or Finance).
  • 5+ years of experience in commercial credit analysis, underwriting, or lending.
  • Knowledge of banking procedures and regulations.
  • Self-motivated, punctual, reliable.
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication; team player.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and technical skills; MS Word/Excel/Outlook proficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze new and renewal loan requests including financials and collateral.

  • Prepare periodic reports (quarterly substandard reviews).
  • Assist in calculating the ALLL and advise on monthly allocations.
  • Ensure lending staff comply with laws, regulations, and bank policy.

Job description

General Description

This is a support role to the lending/credit function of the bank. It is a very analytical position, requiring review of both personal and corporate financial statements, credit reports, appraisals, tax returns, market information, real estate & lien filings, online searches and internal reports for the investigation and analysis of credit risks.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Analysis of new and renewal loan requests, including assessment of loan purpose, pricing, collateral, business financial statements, projections (if necessary), personal financial statements, satisfactory repayment structure and stability, strengths, and weaknesses.
  • Proficiently develops narrative credit memos that document financial underwriting supporting the underlying credit.
  • Reviews existing loan relationships, including assessments found in new analysis, plus documentation review.
  • Present and collaborate with loan officers to help the bank arrive at good credit decisions.
  • Recommend loan grades and/or questions to help arrive at a grade recommendation, on both analysis of new relationships and reviews of existing relationships.
  • Compose memorandums to update loan files.
  • Provides advice and assistance to loan officers as needed, which may include meeting with customers and the construction of commitment letters.
  • Mentor junior Credit Analyst.
  • Assist with collection efforts (repossessions, foreclosures, bankruptcies, etc).
  • Perform annual loan reviews as assigned by management to update credit files with the most current financial analysis.
  • Assist loan officers with the periodic preparation of reports such as quarterly substandard loan reviews.
  • Assist in the calculation of the Allowance for Loan and Lease Loss Reserve (ALLL) and making recommendations to executive management and the Board of Directors for monthly allocations.
  • Assist in monitoring the lending portfolio to ensure that staff and lenders operate in accordance with applicable laws and regulations, as well as the bank policies and procedures as approved by the Board of Directors.
  • Assist in maintaining, updating, and recommending changes to the Bank's loan policy as it pertains, but not limited to, underwriting criteria, loan authorities, structure requirements, pricing guidelines, collections, and charge-offs.
  • Prepare analysis on larger credit relationships.
  • Communicate with auditors, examiners, and loan review consultants to help provide information and resolve any documentation exceptions.
  • Other advanced duties as assigned by the COO.
REQUIRED SKILLS, EXPERIENCE, AND EDUCATION
  • Bachelor's degree in business related field (Accounting or Finance).
  • 5+ years of experience in commercial credit analysis, commercial credit underwriting, and/or commercial lending required.
  • Knowledge of banking procedures and regulations.
  • Self-motivated.
  • Punctual and reliable.
  • Maintains a neat, well-groomed professional appearance.
  • Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills, communicates effectively, and has the ability to work successfully in a team environment.
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook. Good technical skills.
  • Good organizational skills & analytical skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to learn and multitask efficiently.
  • Possesses an attitude of cooperation and a continual motivation to learn.
