Job summary

AMD Austin seeks a data scientist and performance engineer to own the quantitative forecasting system for the CAP team. Combine architecture assumptions, workload measurements, software trends and platform data into forward-looking predictions with explicit confidence ranges and documented provenance.

You will model causality, calibrate forecasts, and present uncertain outcomes to engineers and executives, addressing forecast-versus-actual results and evolution as new silicon enters the market.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience building quantitative models used for technical or business decisions under uncertainty.
  • Strong programming and data-analysis skills in Python or an equivalent analytical environment.
  • Expertise in defining meaningful error metrics, calibration methods and sensitivity analyses for sparse or biased data.
  • Working knowledge of server CPU and system performance and a willingness to engage deeply with architectural causality.
  • Experience with reproducible data pipelines, versioning, notebooks or scripts, and source provenance.
  • Strong visualization, writing and presentation skills for technical and executive audiences.
  • Sound judgment about when a model is useful, when it is overfit and when evidence is insufficient.

Responsibilities

  • Design and maintain a forecasting framework linking CPU architecture, memory, I/O, power, OS and runtime behavior and workloads.
  • Create performance, performance-per-watt and price-performance forecasts with confidence ranges.
  • Build scenarios for uncertain competitor attributes like frequency, core count, memory bandwidth and platform power.
  • Track prediction error by workload, forecast horizon and model version; tune the model as data becomes available.
  • Develop normalized competitive scorecards across performance, efficiency, memory, I/O, ecosystem and roadmap credibility.
  • Fuse benchmark results, platform evidence and roadmap data while preserving source provenance.
  • Identify leading indicators that signal forecast changes or early risk/opportunity.
  • Collaborate with architecture and workload leads to design experiments reducing key uncertainties.
  • Create executive-grade visuals of deltas, confidence ranges and forecast history.
  • Write quarterly forecast narratives and recalibrate when new silicon or data arrives.
