Job summary

The State of South Carolina's Office of General Counsel (Florence County) is seeking a County Attorney II to provide professional legal services for county offices, adoption offices, and licensing. You will represent the agency in family court matters related to child protection, foster care, adoption, and permanency planning, and manage filings, discovery, and witness preparation.

You will collaborate with staff, ensure compliance with state and federal law, and participate in ongoing training

Qualifications

Juris Doctorate or equivalent from an accredited law school.
At least 18 months of experience as a practicing attorney.
Must be a member of the SC Bar.

Responsibilities

Provide professional legal services and representation for assigned county offices, area adoption offices, and regional Day Care licensing office.
Represent the agency in matters related to child protection, foster care, adoption, adult protection, and Economic Services.
Prepare and file pleadings, motions, orders, and notices; manage court documents and service.
Conduct case staffing meetings and prepare cases for Court, including discovery, witnesses, and reviewing agency docs.
Ensure compliance with policy and law in permanency planning and parental rights proceedings.
Utilize the Legal Case Management System for legal operations and documentation.
Attend trainings and review legislation; provide in-house training to staff.
Perform Red Cross shelter duty or other emergency shelter duties as directed.
