Job summary

South Carolina Department of Social Services seeks a County Attorney III to provide professional legal services and representation for county offices, including family court matters related to child protection, foster care, adoption, and adult protection.

The role involves handling emergency removals, permanency planning, and related court actions, with responsibilities for pleadings, discovery, and staff training. A SC Bar member with a JD from an ABA-accredited school is required.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor degree from an ABA-accredited law school and three years of practicing attorney experience.
• Must be a member of the SC Bar.
• Must possess a valid driver's license; may require after-hours work and overnight travel; able to lift 15-20 lbs.
• If offered, provide a certified official transcript showing credentials.

Responsibilities

• Provide professional legal services and representation for county offices, adoption offices, and licensing offices in Family Court matters.
• Represent the agency in emergency or non-emergency removal of children and vulnerable adults, termination of parental rights, and related proceedings.
• Prepare, file and serve court documents; manage pleadings, motions, orders, and notices in agency actions.
• Conduct case staffing, interview witnesses, review agency reports, and prepare cases for court.
