Job summary

Valero Energy is seeking a Sr Counsel to counsel on environmental, health, and safety regulatory matters, advising leadership on risk and compliance. The role covers permits, enforcement, and transactional support, with an on-site presence in San Antonio.

A JD and Texas admission plus 8 years of practice are required, including EHS regulation experience. The position is salaried exempt, with a comprehensive benefits package and the opportunity to influence regulatory strategy across Valero’s

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or higher required.
• Law degree required from an accredited law school.
• Admitted to the practice of law in the relevant state or eligible to practice there.
• 8 years of legal practice experience required.
• Experience in at least one aspect of EHS regulation (air, water, waste, process safety).
• Able and willing to work on-site, in-person at the Valero San Antonio location.

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic legal counsel on environmental, health, and safety laws and related regulatory frameworks.
• Manage complex environmental litigation, regulatory enforcement actions, and administrative proceedings.
• Advise on environmental compliance, permitting, and enforcement matters.
• Support budgeting, reporting to leadership, and other administrative tasks.
• Advise on environmental aspects of business transactions including due diligence and acquisitions.
