Job summary

Hughes Brothers Construction, Inc. is seeking a Project Estimator to prepare estimates for site development and heavy civil projects across Central Florida. You will analyze RFPs, solicit bids, and produce detailed take-offs using AGTEK and HCSS Heavy Bid.

Collaboration with CAD and Project Management will be essential. The ideal candidate has experience in site development and heavy civil work, proficiency with MS Office, MS Project, HCSS Heavy Bid, AGTEK and Bluebeam, and a civil engineering

Qualifications

• Previous estimating experience with Site Development and Heavy Civil Construction preferred (Earthwork, Utility Installation, Roadway Infrastructure).
• Proficiency with computer programs such as Microsoft Office, Microsoft Project, HCSS Heavy Bid, AGTEK and Bluebeam.
• S. degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management a plus.

Responsibilities

• Conduct detailed analysis of RFPs, RFQs, construction documents and specifications to validate overall project requirements.
• Solicit bids for materials and subcontractors as necessary to prepare a complete estimate.
• Ensure completion of quantity and material take-offs utilizing AGTEK software with ability to identify missing information.
• Coordinate with CAD technicians and in-house support for timely material take-offs, vendor quotes and bids.
• Perform site visits to accurately assess conditions and identify potential issues.
• Prepare itemized cost estimates with detailed breakdowns utilizing HCSS Heavy Bid software.
• Coordinate with Project Managers to assist with change orders and year-end warranty close-outs.
• Manage bid document control for successful transfer to Project Management.
• Attend project hand-off meetings to discuss scope, limitations, and site-specific circumstances.

Project Estimator

About the Role

The Project Estimator is responsible for preparation of estimates for a broad range of site development and heavy civil construction projects throughout the Central Florida area. Projects include, but are not limited to, residential and/or multi-family site work packages, industrial/warehouse site work packages, commercial site work packages and municipal, county and FDOT roadway projects.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct detailed analysis of RFPs, RFQs, construction documents and specifications to validate overall project requirements.


• Solicit bids for materials and subcontractors as necessary to prepare a complete estimate.


• Ensure completion of quantity and material take-offs utilizing AGTEK software program with the ability to identify any missing information.


• Coordinate with CAD technicians and additional in-house support personnel for timely compilation of material take-offs, vendor quotes, subcontractor bids, etc.


• Perform site visits of projects to accurately assess existing conditions and identify any potential problems or challenges that may be present.


• Prepare itemized cost estimates with detailed breakdowns utilizing HCSS Heavy Bid software.


• Coordinate with Project Managers as necessary to assist with change orders, plan revisions and year-end warranty close-outs on previously awarded projects.


• Manage bid document control to include email correspondence, vendor quotes, subcontractor bids, take-offs, etc. for successful transfer to the Project Management department.


• Attend project hand-off meetings with the Project Management department for awarded projects to discuss scope, limitations, exclusions, site-specific circumstances, potential issues, etc.

Preferred Experience and Qualifications

• Previous estimating experience with Site Development and Heavy Civil Construction preferred (Earthwork, Utility Installation, Roadway Infrastructure).


• Proficiency with computer programs such as Microsoft Office, Microsoft Project, HCSS Heavy Bid, AGTEK and Bluebeam.


• S. degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management a plus.


• Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with external stakeholders, vendors and subcontractors.


• Ability to work as part of a team which includes mentoring and/or coaching direct and indirect reports.


• Exceptional organizational, planning and communication skills.
