Job summary

UL Solutions in Northbrook/Chicago area seeks a Senior Counsel – Litigation and Disputes to lead and coordinate the company’s litigation strategy. You will report to the Associate General Counsel and work with the CLO and business leaders to manage commercial, product, and regulatory disputes.

You will supervise internal discovery, prepare witnesses for depositions, oversee outside counsel, and help shape policies to minimize risk.

Qualifications

• JD degree and minimum 7 years relevant experience in a law firm or fast-paced and innovative corporate legal department.
• Bar admission in good standing.
• In-depth knowledge of laws and regulations.
• Experience in product liability; commercial and contract disputes; securities litigation.
• Experience taking and defending depositions, preparing witnesses, and attending hearings and trials.
• Strong analytical and organizational skills and excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Ability to use sound judgment, provide guidance, and make key decisions in a demanding and fast-paced environment.
• Ability to contribute as a team player and work collaboratively with colleagues, clients, and business leaders to fulfill and advance company strategy.
• Willingness to travel.

Responsibilities

• Manage and support all aspects of litigation matters including commercial, product incidents, disputes, and regulatory matters.
• Develop recommendations for the most effective strategy for defense or prosecution of these matters.
• Support the preparation of company staff for legal proceedings, depositions and trials, and represent the company at trials, mediations, arbitrations, administrative hearings, and depositions.
• Advise the company on litigation risk and strategy.
• Oversee internal discovery efforts with or without outside counsel, including coordination with internal e-discovery team about document identification, searching, collection, and production.
• Lead and supervise investigations in connection with a wide range of legal issues to identify problems and to support pending and potential litigation, investigations, and regulatory enforcement.
• Assist with subpoena responses and other third-party requests for information.
• Assist with periodic reporting on litigation matters.
• Coordinate within CLO and support the development, revision and maintenance of both internal CLO and enterprise-wide procedures on matters related to dispute and litigation proceedings.
• Support the development, revision, implementation and maintenance of policies, procedures, and technical and organizational controls to ensure the company’s compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
• Coordinate on the management external counsel, as necessary, in a cost-effective manner and in accordance with CLO Billing guidelines.
• Coordinate third-party vendors retained by UL on any litigation or dispute matters.
• Perform other legal duties as directed by theAssociate General Counsel or other CLO leadership.

As a member of the Legal team, the Senior Counsel – Litigation and Disputes is a core member of UL Solutions’ legal function. Reporting to the Associate General Counsel, Litigation and Disputes, the Senior Counsel – Litigation and Disputes will work closely with the Chief Legal Office (CLO) and UL Solutions’ corporate and business leadership to coordinate and assist on the following matters.

Total Rewards

We understand compensation is an important factor as you consider the next step in your career. The estimatedsalary range for this position is $180,000 to $210,000 USD and is based on multiple factors, including job-related knowledge/skills, experience, geographical location, as well as other factors.This position is eligible for annual bonus compensation with a target payout of 20% of the base salary. This position also provides health benefits such as medical, dental and vision; wellness benefits such as mental and financial health; and retirement savings (401K) commensurate with the standard rewards offered in each individual location or country. We also provide full-time employees with paid time off including vacation (15 days), holiday and personal days (totaling 12 days) and sick time off (72 hours).
