A unique opportunity for an experienced civil litigator to transition into a high-impact in-house legal role with a well-established organization headquartered in Metro Detroit.

Our Client is a well-established organization with significant national and international operations and a complex, highly decentralized business environment. Headquartered in Metro Detroit, it serves a diverse commercial customer base and has built a substantial platform through sustained growth and operational expansion.

The Litigation Attorney will join the Legal Department and become a trusted legal and business partner, managing a diverse portfolio of matters involving general liability, premises liability, property damage, subrogation and other third-party claims.

THE OPPORTUNITY:

This is more than a traditional litigation position. The role offers an opportunity to:

• Manage matters from pre-litigation through resolution, with meaningful ownership of litigation strategy and outcomes.
• Serve as a primary liaison with outside counsel, overseeing strategy, budgets and performance.
• Participate in mediations, depositions, settlement conferences, hearings, trials and other legal proceedings.
• Work directly with Risk Management, Operations, HR and other business stakeholders to evaluate exposure and develop practical solutions.
• Provide counsel regarding liability, insurance, indemnification, contracts and legal compliance.
• Identify claims trends and recommend strategies to reduce legal and operational risk.
• Translate complex legal issues into clear, practical business advice.
• Balance legal risk, business objectives, compliance and timely resolution in a fast-moving environment.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE:

The successful candidate will be an experienced civil litigator with approximately 5+ years of legal practice and meaningful experience handling general liability litigation within a law firm or in-house legal department.

BACKGROUND SHOULD INCLUDE:

• JD from an accredited law school.
• Active license and good standing with at least one U.S. state bar.
• Strong knowledge of tort law, litigation practice and procedure, insurance and risk management.
• Demonstrated ability to independently manage multiple complex matters.
• Excellent analytical, organizational, written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong negotiation, problem-solving and stakeholder-management capabilities.
• A practical, commercially minded approach to legal counsel and risk.

Experience serving as in-house counsel, working with self-insured or captive insurance programs, or familiarity with the construction industry's legal and regulatory environment is preferred.
