The County of San Diego is seeking a Senior Cook for various facilities. Responsibilities include meal preparation, kitchen operation, and staff training. Candidates must have significant cooking experience and a valid Food Handler Training card. The role may involve irregular hours and working in demanding environments.

Positions are located within the Health and Human Services Agency and Sheriff's Department, including County hospitals, Sheriff's detention facilities, and Probation facilities. In detention settings, employees may assist with housekeeping and simple food prep, and may inspect, assign, or lead work. Under supervision, incumbents operate kitchen facilities, prepare meals, and train food service staff.

Note: A valid Food Handler Training card is required at appointment. Food Safety Certification is highly desirable.

Work primarily occurs in hospitals, detention, and probation facilities. Irregular hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays may be required. In detention, working with or around persons in custody is possible.
The job involves standing on concrete floors, physical strength and agility, lifting heavy objects, and working in demanding environments.
Candidates must demonstrate honesty and trustworthiness. Felony and some misdemeanor convictions may disqualify. A thorough background check, including possibly psychological or polygraph tests, will be conducted prior to appointment.
Pre-employment background check, fingerprinting, and medical screening are required. Additional investigations may be conducted based on job duties.
Applicants will be scored and placed on a six-month employment list. Ensure all application information is complete and accurate, as responses are evaluated automatically and manually.
