Job summary

Fluence Energy seeks a Senior Controls Software Engineer to develop robust C/C++ modules for Fluence OS controls and integrations with PCS/BMS/RTU devices.

You will deliver releasable increments at sprint ends, support commissioning, and mentor teammates while emphasizing robustness, security and performance in a Linux/embedded environment.

Qualifications

• 5+ years professional C/C++ on Linux/embedded/RTOS.
• Experience with real-time controls in power systems.
• Proficient with Modbus TCP/IP; familiarity with DNP3/IEC-61850.
• Strong unit/integration testing; CI/CD and code reviews.
• Travel up to 5% domestically and internationally.

As a hands-on member of the development team, you will also do the work of delivering a releasable Increment of product at the end of each Sprint, and support commissioning teams with bring-up and diagnostics.**Key Responsibilities**• Implement real-time control services (dispatch, balancing, state machines) in C/C++.• Integrate devices & protocols (Modbus, MQTT).• Coach, mentor, and develop People.• Empower People to take responsibility for their jobs and goals.• Write unit/integration tests; contribute to CI/CD; perform code reviews.• Development Controls, integrating grid-scale battery and power conversion systems from industry-leading manufacturers.• Focus on robustness, security, performance, scalability, and maintainability.• Optimize latency/throughput and reliability on Linux/embedded target • Meet project timelines and budget.• Track, manage, document, and report work using JIRA and Confluence.**Required Qualifications and Experience**• Professional C/C++ on Linux/embedded/RTOS; strong systems fundamentals.• Expertise using the Agile development framework.• Experience with real-time controls and deterministic error handling for power systems.• Expertise in multiple Linux Deployment Environments (Ubuntu preferred).• Device/protocol integration (Modbus TCP/IP; familiarity with DNP3/IEC-61850)• Git, CI/CD, automated testing; collaborative engineering practices.• Enthusiasm for getting things done, taking personal responsibility, adding value within a team setting, and ability to work with minimal supervision.• MS in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or Mathematics from an accredited university with 5+ years of work experience.
