Job summary

LG Energy Solution Vertech, Inc. in Westborough, MA is seeking a Senior Controls Engineer to design, develop, and deploy PLC-based power plant control logic for grid-connected and islanded operations, using IEC 61131-2 and structured text.

You will interface with protection relays, switchgear, and plant controllers, configure OPC UA and DNP3 communications, and help deliver reliable energy storage solutions across multiple resources.

Qualifications

• Strong experience with PLC programming (structured text, function blocks) in power plant control or industrial automation.
• Strong knowledge of industrial networking protocols (OPC UA, DNP3, Modbus, GOOSE) and data base integration (SQL).
• Experience configuring and controlling protection relays and switchgear.
• Experience with Ignition SCADA (Vision and/or Perspective) or similar platforms.
• Knowledge of cybersecurity best practices in industrial environments.
• Experience with Single Line Diagrams, switch gear and protection relays.
• Excellent verbal, written and documentation skills.
• Ability to work as a key member on a development team.
• Ability to interface well with internal and external customers.
• Demonstrated history of delivering quality products to market with understanding and release control.
• Experience with Schweitzer RTAC devices.
• Experience using medium voltage equipment such as inverters and transformers.

Primary Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and deploy power plant controller logic implemented in PLCs for controlling multiple generation resources (BESS, generators, PVs) and customer loads in grid connected and islanded operations.
• Primary development will use structured text on IEC 61131-2 compliant PLC’s.
• Interface with protection relays and switch gear for starting and operating the power plant.
• Knowledge of and appropriate measures taken to address potential cybersecurity concerns and project requirements.
• Configure OPC UA, DNP3 and other communication protocols for interfacing with plant controllers, group controllers and IEDs for real time data acquisition and control.
• Perform system commissioning, testing and validation.
• Report on status of development and project timelines to relevant stakeholders.
• Interface with program management, project management and project engineers to help deliver controls functionality and performance according to the project specifications.

Key Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Required:

• 5 to 8+ years of hands-on industrial or utility controls experience
