Job summary

Wunderlich-Malec Engineering in Tigard, OR is seeking a Senior Controls Engineer to lead Rockwell/Allen Bradley integrations and SCADA development for client projects across semiconductor, pulp and paper, and food & beverage industries.

The role emphasizes system integration, PLC/HMI programming, ISA-standard practices, and guiding junior engineers on complex projects while traveling up to 25% to job sites. This position is on-site in our Tigard office.

Qualifications

  • BSEE or BS in Controls Engineering preferred; AA in Engineering Technology or equivalent may be substituted.
  • 5–10 years of experience in control systems, ladder logic, SCADA programming and applications.
  • Experience with Allen Bradley PLCs and VFDs (Rockwell/ABB) is a plus.
  • Ignition or GE Cimplicity SCADA experience; Python/SQL scripting a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Develops control logic software and user interface applications.
  • Assist with initial start-up and debugging of integrated systems; develop system documentation.
  • Work on automation and control system integration projects for diverse industries (semiconductor, pulp & paper, food & beverage).
  • Collaborate with team; provide guidance to junior engineers and technicians.
  • Work in cleanroom environments per semiconductor protocols; adhere to ISA standards.
  • Perform general administration and project-related tasks.

We have a Senior Controls Engineer - Rockwell Systems Integration position available in our Tigard, OR office. This position is geared towards a systems integrator with experience programming Rockwell / Allen Bradley control systems and Ignition or GE SCADA applications. This person will be responsible for systems integration project requirements involving PLC programming, HMI programming, SCADA development, instrumentation, check-out support, and start-up assistance.

Major Responsibilities
  • Develops control logic software and user interface applications.
  • Will assist with initial start-up and debug integrated systems and the development of system documentation
  • Individual will be working on automation and control system integration projects for clients in industries such as semiconductor, pulp and paper, food and beverage, etc.
  • Works well with others and self-directed with only general supervision.
  • Works in a cleanroom environment per semi-conductor protocols/requirements
  • Understands piping and instrument diagrams, wiring diagrams, panel drawings, one-line drawings, loop sheets, databases and vendor manuals. Interpret and utilize appropriate ISA standards and practices.
  • Will act as technical lead on projects and guide lower-level engineers and technicians
  • General administration such as paperwork, copying, printing, faxing, and using a computer
Minimum Requirements

Education BSEE or BS in Controls Engineering is preferred. An AA in Engineering Technology or equivalent with equivalent experience may be substituted.

Experience Five to ten years in areas below is preferred:

  • An in-depth understanding of control systems, components, ladder logic programming, SCADA programming and their applications
  • Experience with PLC programming of Allen Bradley PLCs (Rockwell 5, 500, 5000, Device Net, Point I/O, additional experience in GE or other PLC platforms is a plus)
  • Experience with VFD programming (Preferably Allen-Bradley or ABB VFDs)
  • Experience with Ignition or GE Cimplicity SCADA systems (Python and SQL scripting experience is a plus)
  • Experience with the development of sequence of operations, functional acceptance, and operational acceptance documentation
  • Experience with PID loop tuning (Open and Closed Loops)
  • Must have a valid driver's license and the ability to travel up to 25% to job sites
Physical Demands of Position

Seeing, color perception, hearing, clear speech, dexterity in hands, driving, lifting, climbing, and ability to mount and dismount equipment, pushing, and pulling.
