Job summary

FORTNA is seeking a Sr. Controls Engineer to drive design, functionality and testing of upper-level automated sortation systems. You will lead PLC and HMI programming, mentor junior engineers, and collaborate with customers and vendors to ensure project success.

The role requires 4–7 years in industrial controls, proficiency in Rockwell PLCs and HMI tools, and up to 70–75% travel. This remote position offers opportunities to influence system design and implementation across sites.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
4–7 years in industrial controls environment.
Proficient PLC programming (Rockwell) and HMI.
Experience with industrial networks (EtherNet/IP, Profinet, Modbus).
Ability to lead junior engineers and collaborate across teams.

Responsibilities

Write and implement modular PLC code and assist in on-site controls tasks.
Design and develop HMI using Ignition, Wonderware, FactoryTalk View, or FactoryTalk Optix.
Implement PLC and HMI programs to meet specifications.
Coordinate with customers, vendors, and project managers during design and execution.
Commission and troubleshoot complex automated systems; provide site engineering support.
