Job summary

FORTNA is seeking a Sr. Controls Engineer to drive design, functionality and testing of upper‑level automated sortation systems.

You will lead PLC and HMI development, diagnose controls issues, and mentor junior engineers while ensuring on‑time delivery to our customers. Requirements include a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field and 4–7 years in industrial controls; experience with Rockwell PLCs, FactoryTalk View, Ignition, Indusoft, and VFDs; strong communication and

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required.
4–7 years in industrial controls environment.
Proficient in PLC programming (Rockwell required).
Experience with HMI programming (FactoryTalk View, Ignition, Wonderware, Indusoft).
Experience with I/O design and troubleshooting.
Experience with industrial networks (EtherNet/IP, Profinet, Modbus).
Low voltage design and drawings experience.
VFD experience preferred.
Proficient with Microsoft 365 Office Apps.
Strong communication and leadership abilities.

Responsibilities

Write and implement modular and reusable PLC code and assist in all on-site controls engineering tasks.
Design and develop HMI using Ignition, Wonderware, FactoryTalk View, or FactoryTalk Optix.
Implement PLC and HMI programs to satisfy design and customer specifications.
Work with Fortna employees, customers and third-party vendors during design and execution phases.
Review electrical designs and provide accurate as-built drawings for approval.
Commission and troubleshoot complex automated systems and provide site engineering support.
Provide support of system commissioning efforts as required.
