Job summary

Nuro is seeking a Senior/Staff Controls Engineer to design and deploy production controls software powering L4 autonomous driving across diverse conditions and platforms. You’ll work with autonomy, hardware, and systems teams to translate trajectories into real-world motions on vehicles globally.

The role requires advanced degree and 5+ years in controls, with strength in C/C++, vehicle dynamics, and ML for controls, plus GenAI workflow experience.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of industry experience, including 3+ years deploying L2+ or higher automated driving controls at scale.
• Strong knowledge of vehicle dynamics, controls theory, and control strategy development.
• Experience implementing classical and modern control methods and ML for controls.
• Strong embedded C/C++ programming skills or equivalent.
• Solid math/physics foundations and analytical abilities.

Responsibilities

• Develop production-level control software following safety standards (ISO 26262).
• Interface between planner and controller; implement advanced control strategies for expanded ODD.
• Integrate controls stack with new vehicle platforms and hardware.
• Collaborate with hardware, base software, autonomy, vehicle testing, and system teams.
• Explore ML for vehicle dynamics to improve performance and bring-up.
