Job summary

Dig Energy, Inc. is seeking an experienced controls engineer to own the software for our geothermal drill rig. This hands-on role blends field testing with desk work to build reliable, scalable control systems and intuitive HMI design.

You will collaborate with our CTO to shape software architecture, write robust C++ and Python, and partner with hardware teams to deliver safe, high-performance automation in a fast-moving startup.

Qualifications

• 5+ years designing machine controls and automation.
• Experience architecting robust, scalable software for growing teams.
• Experience coding HMIs for SCADA systems.
• Proficient in C++ and Python.
• Strong embedded Linux experience and CLI tooling.
• Familiar with SPI, I2C, UART, CAN interfaces.
• Experience with unit testing and GitHub workflows.
• Knowledge of WebSockets, REST, MQTT.
• Ability to document APIs and datasheets.
• BS in Electrical, Software or Controls Engineering.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop controls for a custom drill platform.
• Work with the hardware engineering team to test, troubleshoot and optimize control algorithms, fault handling, HMI screens and automation.
• Created detailed specifications and documentation.
• Support R&D efforts for novel drilling technologies.
