Job description

Ready to make connectivity from space universally accessible, secure, and actionable? Then you’ve come to the right place!

E-Space is bridging Earth and space to enable hyper-scaled deployments of Internet of Things (IoT) solutions and services. We are building a highly-advanced low Earth orbit (LEO) space system that will fundamentally change the design, economics, manufacturing, and service delivery associated with traditional satellite and terrestrial IoT systems.

We’re intentional, curious, and committed to innovating space-based communications and delivering actionable intelligence to expand global economies, protect space and our planet, and enhance overall quality of life.

Position: Senior Controls Engineer

This role focuses on developing and integrating control and estimation algorithms into our satellite’s real-time flight software. You will collaborate with hardware and software engineers to ensure the behavior and performance of algorithms designed by the GNC team are effectively integrated, tested, and operated within our satellites’ mission-critical flight software.

This position reports to the GNC Lead and is based in Saratoga, CA.

What you will do:
  1. Design, implement, and test control algorithms and software for E-Space satellites.
  2. Maintain and enhance the Satellite Simulator with data and critical analysis.
  3. Interface with software engineers to integrate controls and estimation software into the flight software stack.
  4. Own all aspects of controls software development, including autocoding, testing, hardware-in-the-loop simulations, mission integration, and operation.
  5. Follow rigorous software configuration management and code development processes.
  6. Collaborate with subsystem engineers, providing expertise as needed.
  7. Participate in design reviews, prepare documentation, and present findings.
What you bring to this role:
  • MS + 5 years / PhD + 2 years in Electrical, Aerospace Engineering, or related field.
  • Experience designing and deploying control algorithms for aerospace or ground vehicles.
  • Knowledge of system identification, Kalman filters, and controllers.
  • Experience with machine learning and AI.
  • 3+ years of software development in C, C++, and Matlab/Simulink.
  • Experience debugging complex software and algorithms.
  • Familiarity with actuators and sensors for LEO satellites.
  • Understanding of spacecraft dynamics and orbital mechanics.
  • Proficiency with Git and Linux.
Bonus points:
  • Experience with spacecraft GNC hardware/software and testing.
  • Experience in autonomy software for space/aerial/ground vehicles.
  • Development of visualization and graphics engines.
  • Additional experience with machine learning and AI.

This is a full-time, exempt position based in Saratoga, CA. The annual base pay ranges from $100,000 to $200,000, with total compensation depending on experience and skills.

We seek candidates passionate about LEO satellite development, design, and in-orbit activities. We cannot sponsor work visas currently.

Why E-Space is right for you:

Join us to be part of a mission-driven team dedicated to creating new global capabilities, improving lives, and building a smarter planet. We value dedication, responsibility, and innovation. Expect opportunities for growth, a supportive environment, and meaningful industry impact. We also prioritize your well-being with benefits supporting physical, emotional, and financial health, including competitive salaries, learning opportunities, health options, paid holidays, and more.
