Job summary

Venteon is seeking a Senior Controls Engineer for its St. Clair, MI location. The role focuses on designing and maintaining PLC/HMI systems, integrating robotics and vision components, and ensuring safety standards across North American plants.

The ideal candidate has 5+ years in controls engineering, experience with Allen-Bradley and Siemens PLCs, and strong networking knowledge. Travel up to 50% is required; on-site role with full-time benefits offered.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
• Minimum 5 years of experience as a Controls Engineer.
• Experience with Allen-Bradley and Siemens PLC/HMI systems.
• Experience with industrial protocols such as Ethernet, Profibus, RS-232, DeviceNet, DH+.
• Willingness to travel up to 50% to North American Plants.
• Ability to setup, troubleshoot, and maintain PLC control systems, VFDs and servo motors.
• Basic LAN knowledge and TCP/IP, plus LAN hardware (switches, cabling, routers).
• Software installation/upgrading experience.
• Knowledge of manufacturing equipment (thermoforming, IR ovens, hot air ovens, ultrasonic welding, robotics).
• Knowledge of safety systems and their integration.
• Strong cross-functional communication.

Responsibilities

• Design, update, and improve control systems including PLC logic, motor/servo controls, hydraulics and pneumatics, and vision systems.
• Integrate machine networking for remote access, monitoring, data storage, and traceability.
• Collaborate with OEMs to ensure new equipment meets safety and control standards.
• Integrate barcode reading and OCR systems into equipment and tooling.
• Coordinate with management, engineering, maintenance to implement upgrades.
• Teach themselves new device functionality as technology evolves.
• Manage timelines and costs for each project.
• Identify critical spares for new and current equipment.
• Mentor and train plant controls engineers where applicable.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities of the Senior Controls Engineer

Design, update, and continuously improve controls systems including robotics, Allen Bradley and Siemens PLC logic, electrical distribution, motor controls, motion controls, operator interfaces, hydraulics and pneumatics controls, and vision systems Integrate machine and plant networking solutions to provide remote access to equipment, equipment monitoring and data storage, and Poke-Yoke traceability Able to work with OEMs to guarantee new equipment is designed and built to company s and national & local authority s safety and controls standards Integrate various barcode reading and OCR systems into various equipment and secondary tooling Coordinate in a professional and effective manner with all levels of management, engineering, maintenance, etc to ensure new equipment and upgrades are implemented in the best possible means Candidate is expected to teach themselves functionality of new devices and controls systems as technology advances and equipment is updated Manage timelines and costs with each project Assist in identifying critical spares on new and current equipment.
