Senior Controls Engineer

Department: Automaton

Job Objectives

Storage Solutions is an established company in the Material Handling Industry. We are currently seeking applicants for the position of Senior Electrical/Controls Engineer in Nashville. We are looking for a self-motivated individual with initiative to supplement our growing team.

Overall Responsibilities

1. Provide engineering for the implementation of projects within the automated material handling industry to meet each customer’s unique requirements.
2. Work closely with Project Managers on implementing the full project lifecycle including design drawings and layouts, interfacing with suppliers, developing installation packages, and supporting installation.
3. Ability to manage multiple priorities efficiently while meeting project schedules and budgets.
4. Review customer specifications to ensure compliance.
5. Perform engineering calculations to support design work.
6. Participate in design review and customer review meetings.
7. Supporting the project manager in technical clarifications with suppliers.
8. Conduct site inspections to validate proper installation of equipment (as needed).
9. Support supplier and subcontractor selections through quotation analysis.
10. Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to convey technical concepts and ideas to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
11. Provide mentoring to other team members within the department.
12. Support the continuous improvement of electrical engineering standard documentation and procedures to improve the quality and efficiency of the Electrical Engineering department.
13. Take ownership of the assigned Electrical Engineering responsibilities of a project to ensure success.
14. Participate in risk assessment meetings.
15. Develop electrical schematics and panel design using AutoCAD electrical.
16. Develop control system network topology and architecture.
17. Develop PLC ladder logic programming.
18. On-site testing, commissioning, startup and customer acceptance.
19. Industrial controls device configuration and setup.

Knowledge & Skills Requirements

1. BS Electrical Engineering or other relevant field or equivalent work experience.
2. 8+ years of relevant experience in standard design of relevant material handling equipment and general operational knowledge of distribution centers with a focus on automated warehouse technology.
3. Proficiency in AutoCAD Electrical software.
4. Proficiency with Microsoft Office products (Outlook, Word and Excel)
5. Must understand industry engineering/design concepts and practices.
6. Ability to interact with all levels of management, clients, and vendors.
7. Possess and maintain a high degree of safety awareness during the design phase.
8. Technical understanding and primary experience in the processing of projects.
9. Professional experience in a comparable position is desirable.
10. Familiarity with Conveyor/Sortation Goods-To-Person, AS/RS, AGVs, AMRs Case & Piece Picking or Palletizing & Depalletizing Systems a plus.
11. Knowledgeable of electrical and controls engineering theories and principles.
12. Experience in implementing and commissioning automated equipment.
