Job summary

Amtec Staffing seeks a Senior Systems Controls Engineer with a proven track record in automation, electrical engineering, and software development. The role focuses on designing control architectures, integrating PLCs, motion systems, and machine vision, and delivering robust HMI/SCADA solutions for industrial processing workstations.

You will develop reusable motion control code, collaborate across engineering, QA, and production teams, and support project managers through acceptance testing.

Qualifications

• Four-year degree in CS/engineering/physics or related discipline.
• Seven+ years designing custom motion control and HMI software.
• Three+ years designing custom machine vision applications.
• Strong knowledge of PLCs and automation standards.
• Ability to travel occasionally.

Responsibilities

• Pre-sale conceptual design, schedule, and cost estimation of control architecture for automation workstations.
• PLC logic and electrical schematic design, integration of motion control, and HMI/SCADA/OPC UA networking.
• Develop reusable motion control code for Delta-Tau, Aerotech, ACS systems.
• Connect manufacturing floor with LAN, OPC UA, database interfaces and protocols.
• Write PLC code for Allen Bradley, Omron, Siemens, Mitsubishi, Sick and Pilz PLCs.
• Support system acceptance testing with project managers.
• Handle various projects in a team environment across departments.
• Develop new logic, interfaces, and controls under management guidance.
• Prepare requirements docs after customer interviews and hardware inputs.
• Create interface docs and functionality specs for control modules.
• Develop project plans and schedules for control development.
• Report progress, demonstrations, and changes; maintain engineering release docs.

Job description

The Senior Systems Controls Engineer will have a proven background in automation control, electrical engineering, and software development.

Responsibilities:

• Pre-sale conceptual design, schedule, and cost estimation of control architecture for semi-automated and fully automated industrial processing workstations
• PLC logic and electrical schematic design for integrating system operation, motion control, laser programming and control, machine vision (Cognex, Keyence), data collection and analysis, file management, human machine interfaces (HMI), SCADA, OPC, UA, and networking capabilities with real time implementation.
• Structured, re-useable low-level motion control system code for Delta-Tau, Aerotech, and ACS motion systems implementing control system and I/O functions.
• Manufacturing floor automation connectivity including LAN, OPC UA, database, and other standard interfaces and protocols.
• PLC code for Allen Bradley, Omron, Siemens, Mitsubishi, Sick and Pilz PLCs
• Provide support for system acceptance testing conducted by project managers.
• Other projects and tasks as assigned by the Company from time to time.
• Work in a team environment with other engineers, production, QA, test, materials control, contract management, and sales personnel
• Support and develop new logic, interfaces, and controls under direction of management.
• Prepare requirements document based on interview with customer and hardware engineers.
• Prepare interface and functionality documentation for control modules.
• Develop project plans and schedules for control development work.
• Report on progress, demonstrations, and changes
• Provide detailed documentation for engineering release.

Software Development Management

• Analyze and recommend improvements to our present controls' development and design control methodology.

Position Requirements:

• Completely knowledgeable in Controls design tools and environments including: OPC UA, Rs Logix, CP One, Ethernet IP and others.
• Current experience in RS Logix and PointIO is required. Strong fundamental background in controls engineering is a MUST!

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

• Four-year degree in computer science, engineering, physics, or related discipline
• Seven years+ experience in designing custom motion control and HMI software.
• Three years+ experience in designing custom machine vision applications.
