Job summary

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent hands-on experience in engineering or manufacturing.
  • 5+ years of hands-on controls engineering with automated manufacturing equipment.
  • Experience with Rockwell ControlLogix/CompactLogix hardware and software, Studio 5000, FactoryTalk View.
  • Knowledge and practice of machine safety per ISO 13849 and ANSI/A3 R15.06.

Responsibilities

  • Support capital equipment procurement projects from concept through production launch.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (design, lean, quality, EHS, procurement, operations) for new product introductions.
  • Provide control systems engineering support on multiple projects across general automation, conveyance, packaging, fabrication, plastics forming and piercing automation.
  • Review supplier hardware/software designs and ensure internal standards compliance.
  • Contribute input to GE Appliances standards updates.
  • Prioritize safety with EHS to protect worker health and equipment integrity.
  • Work with automation and robotics engineers to implement innovative, cost-efficient solutions.
  • Assist factory teams in implementing, troubleshooting, and continuously improving new systems.

GE Appliances, a Haier company, is seeking a Senior Controls Engineer to lead the development and implementation of advanced automation equipment across our manufacturing facilities. The ideal candidate brings strong technical judgement, a practical approach to problem solving, and the ability to develop scalable, implementable, and maintainable machine control solutions.

This role offers the opportunity to work on innovative manufacturing automation projects while supporting a flexible, team-oriented work environment. This is an on-site role due to the hands-on nature of equipment development, installation, and support. How You’ll Create Possibilities
  • Support capital equipment procurement projects from concept through production launch.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams in design, lean, quality, EHS, procurement, and operations to support new product introductions.
  • Provide control systems engineering support on multiple projects across a variety of applications including general automation, conveyance systems, packaging systems, customized fabrication equipment, plastics forming and piercing automation, and related processes.
  • Review equipment supplier hardware and software designs and ensure compliance with internal standards.
  • Provide input to GE Appliances standards updates.
  • Prioritize safety by working with EHS teams to ensure all processes and equipment protect the health and well-being of our people.
  • Collaborate with automation and robotics engineers to implement innovative, cost-effective solutions.
  • Support factory teams in implementing, troubleshooting, and continuously improving new systems and equipment.
What You’ll Bring to Our Team
Required
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering or related discipline OR equivalent hands-on experience in technical/manufacturing disciplines.
  • 5+ years of hands-on, relevant controls engineering experience with automated manufacturing equipment and processes.
  • Experience with Rockwell Automation ControlLogix/CompactLogix hardware & software, Studio 5000, FactoryTalk View.
  • Knowledge and practice of machine safety (ISO 13849, ANSI/A3 R15.06).
Preferred
  • Ability to work in large cross-functional teams and at multiple levels in the organization (both salaried and shop floor operators / skilled trades team members).
  • Good communication skills – will be expected to provide project status updates to cross-functional teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to solve complex automation and controls challenges.
  • Automation integration experience.
  • Proficient in MS Office and AutoCAD.
  • Experience in a large-scale manufacturing environment and capital equipment procurement.
  • Skilled knowledge of controls software (Rockwell, Emerson, Siemens) and coding structure for ladder logic. Experience with other controls programming languages such as structured text, and function blocks diagram is beneficial.
  • TUV Certification in Machine Safety.
Work Environment
  • This position is primarily based in Louisville, KY, but may require travel to other locations as needed.
  • The primary work schedule is the 1st shift; however, occasional support during weekends and off shifts may be required based on project needs.
  • Travel (domestic and international) may be required in accordance with project requirements (25% of time).
