Polaris is seeking a driven and experienced Senior Controls Engineer to provide technical support for industrial control systems at our Huntsville, AL facility. In this role, you will play a key part in optimizing manufacturing processes and ensuring system reliability. You will report to the central Advanced Manufacturing Engineering team and contribute to both local initiatives and global manufacturing strategies.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Develop standards and specific control type and configuration for new equipment used in the manufacturing process with supervision.
- Develop and maintain required documentation to support controls applications used in the manufacturing process, including operation and maintenance as part of controls team.
- Oversee installation of control systems on new and/or existing equipment.
- Program changes that are required to maintain and improve the manufacturing process.
- Integrate control systems with MES systems to maintain product quality.
- Analyze and recommend improvement to manufacturing processes, which will benefit from automation techniques.
- Train production and maintenance personnel in control operations, maintenance and programming functions.
- Assist tooling department in the development and design of new tooling used in the manufacturing process.
- Assist controls engineering supervisor and manufacturing team with the development, justification, and execution of long range plans to meet corporate objectives.
- Prepare and present detailed technical reports, documentation, and presentations for global stakeholders.
- Maintain compliance with company policies, quality standards, safety standards and OSHA compliance.
Skills & Knowledge
- BS degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field.
- 5+ years directly related experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
- Proficiency with MS Office.
- Excellent mechanical aptitude and mechanic skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Experience With
- Allen Bradley PLCs. Specifically ControlLogix and MicroLogix.
- Allen Bradley Panelview plus HMIs.
- Allen Bradley VFDs.
- Troubleshooting and commissioning fieldbus networks (Ethernet/IP and DeviceNet).
- Creating and modifying schematics with AutoCAD.
- Managing Kepware Client and OPC_UA communications.
- Assembly process design and optimization.
- Industrial equipment design and troubleshooting.
- Electrical panel building.
