Wunderlich-Malec Engineering (WM) Senior Controls Engineer Position

Wunderlich-Malec Engineering (WM) is a 100% employee-owned ESOP and one of the largest and most well-established engineering companies in the United States. We have a Senior Controls Engineer position available in our Huntington, CA office.

This role requires technical proficiency in automation solutions involving PLC, HMI, SCADA, and DCS/Delta V platforms. The engineer will interact with clients, develop specifications, and handle implementation, testing, and commissioning. Leadership qualities, problem-solving skills, and the ability to foster partnerships are essential. Success is measured by securing repeat business with clients.

Major Responsibilities
  1. Design and deliver innovative automation solutions, including control system architecture, component selection, schematic development, programming (PLC, DCS/Delta V), HMI/SCADA development, and system commissioning.
  2. Design, detail, and implement industrial networking systems using protocols like Ethernet/IP, Profinet, etc., for larger projects.
  3. Manage projects up to $1M, including planning, scheduling, budgeting, and team coordination, ensuring profitability.
  4. Act as technical lead or project manager, mentoring engineers and technicians, and supporting project execution.
Minimum Requirements

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Control, Mechanical, Chemical Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent experience.

Experience: Over 5 years in relevant areas, including:

  • PLC platforms like ControlLogix, PLC-5
  • HMI/SCADA systems such as Rockwell Automation FactoryTalk, Ignition
  • DCS platforms like Emerson DeltaV
  • Industrial networking and protocols
  • Electrical schematics and control panel design
  • Leadership and mentoring experience
  • Ability to travel up to 10%, mainly within Southern California
Physical Demands and Environment

Includes visual, auditory, dexterity, driving, lifting, and equipment handling in a hybrid working environment.

Benefits and Salary
