Job summary

Amsted Rail, a division of Amsted Industries, is seeking a Senior Controls Engineer for its Granite City, IL location. The role focuses on onsite support of automated control systems, including Allen Bradley PLCs, ABB robotics, Vacon drives, and Wonderware MES.

You will design improvements, develop software, and perform field and office design work. The position requires 8+ years in electrical controls, a bachelor’s degree in a related field, and a strong track record in project delivery and

• 8+ years of electrical controls/system engineering experience.
• Self-motivated and able to meet deadlines.

• Successful project designs and implementations.
• Hands-on mechanical and electrical aptitude.

Responsibilities

• Develop and modify PLC programs for Allen Bradley SLC-5/05, ControlLogix, CompactLogix, and MicroLogix processors.
• Program and maintain IRC5 and S4C+ ABB robotic systems; pursue continuous improvement.
• Work with Vacon drives and Allen Bradley AC drives and starters; configure related components.
• Develop and maintain HMI systems such as PanelViews and Wonderware MES.
• Understand Ethernet/IP, Remote IO, and Modbus TCP/IP communications.
• Improve processes, procedures, and equipment reliability.
• Provide engineering support for troubleshooting, rebuilding, and repair of electrical/mechanical systems.
• Follow design standards when integrating PLC, robotics, HMI, and data collection systems.
• Create and maintain documentation of processes and operating procedures.

Job description

Amsted Rail, a division of Amsted Industries, a private, employee-owned multi-billion revenue corporation with a large global presence, has an immediate opening for a Senior Controls Engineer at its Granite City, IL location. The ideal candidate will be an individual who has interest and the ability to become a future leader within the engineering and maintenance departments.

Onsite support of Operations with automated control systems such as Allen Bradly PLCs, Panelviews, Vacon AC Drives, ABB Robotics, and Wonderware MES. Support will include electrical and mechanical troubleshooting of existing systems. This role will also be responsible for machine design improvements, software development, and electrical circuit design. This opportunity will include field work as well as office setting design work.

Job Responsibilities

• Ability to work with Software and Hardware of Allen Bradley PLC systems such as SLC-5/05, ControlLogix, CompactLogix, and MicroLogix processors. Develop new programs and continuously improve existing using company standards.
• Ability to work with IRC5 and S4C+ ABB Robotic systems, new control programming and continuous improvement of existing.
• Ability to work with Vacon AC Drives, Allen Bradley Powerflex 400, 750 and 755 AC Drives, as well as forward / reversing two speed starters and contactors.
• Ability to develop and maintain HMI systems such as Allen Bradley Panelviews and Wonderware MES.
• Knowledge of various communication protocols such as Ethernet I/P, Remote IO, and Modbus TCP/IP.
• Provide continuous improvement of processes, procedures, and equipment.
• Assures maximum reliability of equipment.
• Provides engineering support to operations in troubleshooting, rebuilding and repair of electrical and mechanical equipment, and automated systems.
• Follow company design standards while integrating automation including PLC, Robotics, HMI and data collection systems.
• Creates and maintains documentation of processes and operating procedures.

Job Qualifications

• 8+ years of electrical controls/system engineering experience.
• Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or Mechatronic Engineering.
• Self-motivated and ability to meet deadlines.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office.

• Experience displaying hands-on mechanical and electrical aptitude.

The base salary range for this position is $80,000 to $130,000. The exact salary will vary based on factors such as experience, skills, education, and location. In addition to base salary, this role is eligible for participation in a competitive bonus program based on individual and company performance.
