Job description

Introduction to the Job

As a Senior Controls Engineer, you will develop advanced control solutions for high-precision mechatronic systems. Your work will improve the performance, reliability, and manufacturability of technology supporting semiconductor production worldwide. You will join the Mechatronics and Controls Engineering team in San Diego, Ca and help ASML advance lithography technology through practical, scalable engineering solutions.

Role and Responsibilities

In this senior role, you will own technically complex solutions from early research through integration and qualification. You will guide engineers, coordinate across disciplines, and balance technical quality with timely delivery.

  • Lead the design and delivery of advanced control solutions for complex mechatronic modules.

  • Translate product needs into clear requirements, specifications, interfaces, and verification plans.

  • Develop control concepts, evaluate feasibility, and select practical approaches, materials, and technologies.

  • Create detailed designs, models, documentation, test methods, and qualification plans.

  • Integrate subsystems, investigate performance issues, and recommend improvements based on test results.

  • Coordinate technical work across engineering teams, suppliers, customers, and project partners.

  • Identify technical, schedule, quality, and safety risks while supporting project planning and execution.

As the Senior Controls Engineer, you will also mentor approximately three to five engineers. You will share knowledge, review technical decisions, and help strengthen engineering practices across related projects.

Education and Experience
  • Master's degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, mechatronics, controls engineering, or a related field.

  • A minimum of five years of relevant experience developing controls for complex mechatronic or electromechanical systems.

  • Experience leading technical work and advising engineering leaders or project managers.

  • Strong knowledge of control theory, system dynamics, modeling, simulation, integration, and testing.

  • Experience with MATLAB, Simulink, Python, or comparable engineering and data‑analysis tools.

  • Experience working with adjacent engineering disciplines and understanding subsystem interactions.

Your experience should enable you to work independently while seeking input when decisions affect broader systems.
