Job summary

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience.
  • Experience with international subsidiaries and multi‑jurisdictional tax and GAAP compliance.

  • Lead payroll processing and close activities; mentor the finance team.

Job description

Job Title: Senior Controller

The Senior Controller serves as the company's senior finance leader, responsible for overseeing all financial operations across our New York headquarters and subsidiaries in France and Tokyo. The Senior Controller partners closely with the CEO and executive team to drive profitability and continued expansion while ensuring financial integrity across all entities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead annual budget preparation, aligning financial planning with organizational goals and growth targets across the New York headquarters and France and Tokyo subsidiaries.
  • Manage liquidity, working capital, and banking relationships. Develop and deliver monthly and annual cash flow reports to enable proactive liquidity management and inform capital planning.
  • Provide accurate financial statements and inventory reporting; maintain audit readiness for lenders; ensure full compliance with GAAP accounting standards.
  • Analyze monthly financial statements from France and Japan subsidiaries. Plan and execute intercompany transfers and integrate results into consolidated company cash flow.
  • Oversee full-cycle Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable functions, ensuring timely processing, accurate record‑keeping, and strong internal controls. Manage sales tax reconciliations and execute timely payments to tax authorities; partner with Avalara to support automated compliance and multi‑jurisdictional tax filings. Oversee bank reconciliations and support the monthly close process.
  • Manage payroll processing for approximately 80 employees; reconcile and post payroll entries into the general ledger accurately and on schedule.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a finance team of two; foster a culture of accuracy and accountability while working directly with executive leadership on high‑impact decisions.
  • Partner with the CEO to provide forward‑looking financial insights, scenario planning, and recommendations to support key business decisions and long‑range growth strategy.
Requirements & Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required. CPA designation strongly preferred.
  • Experience: 10+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience, with significant exposure to retail and wholesale finance management.
  • International: Demonstrated experience managing or overseeing overseas subsidiaries, ideally in the apparel or consumer goods industry.
  • Systems & ERP: Extensive hands‑on experience with the RLM ERP system required. Proficiency with Avalara for sales tax compliance and filing. Proficiency across Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Leadership: Proven track record leading and developing a finance team; experience mentoring staff and partnering across departments.
  • Salary: $185,000-$240,000
