Job summary

CDM Smith in Massachusetts is seeking an Automation Engineer to design instrumentation and control systems using 3D/4D practices. You will develop P&IDs, lay out control architectures, and contribute to PLC and HMI programming.

The role includes reviewing drawings, mentoring junior staff, supporting proposals, and traveling domestically 20–40% to client sites. A Bachelor’s degree and 5 years related experience are required, with equivalent experience considered in lieu of a degree.

Responsibilities

• Creates basic to moderately complex instrumentation, controls and related systems designs using 3D and 4D design practices, assists with specification development and HMI/PLC programming.
• Reviews basic to highly complex component level shop drawings and assist with testing oversight.
• Develops P&IDs, control architectures, specifications and control descriptions for programming.
• Leads staff and mentors junior staff; reviews work as necessary.
• Supports proposals and marketing activities; may participate in proposals.
• Performs other duties as required.
