GE Vernova in Oakbrook Terrace, IL is seeking an experienced HVDC Control and Protection Lead to oversee technical solutions and ensure customer requirements are met through reference solutions. Job Description Summary

• Oversee the overall technical solution, ensuring customer requirements are met based on reference solutions.
• Lead requirements gathering, system design, implementation, and development of HVDC Control and Protection systems.
• Review and approve technical documents, including control and protection settings, manuals, test plans, and test procedures.
• Serve as the primary customer interface for technical discussions, training, and requirements clarification.
• Define control philosophies, protection and interlocking logics, and data exchange configurations.
• Lead and participate in engineering design processes, including design reviews and approval cycles.
• Ensure that all design outputs comply with industry standards, system requirements, and quality procedures.
• Conduct Electromagnetic Transient (EMT) studies using PSCAD, EMTP-RV, and model control/protection functions in MATLAB/Simulink.
• Perform network conversion, modelling, tuning, and verification using PSSE, PSCAD, and RSCAD.
• Develop full plant and system models and lead end-to-end validation across multiple simulation platforms.
• Lead root cause analysis and troubleshooting of complex VSC control and protection issues.
• Provide technical guidance, mentorship, and knowledge transfer to junior engineers.
• Support managers in building high-performing, resilient teams.
• Recruit, develop, and mentor engineering talent to enhance organizational capability.
• Identify and implement improvements in engineering tools, processes, systems, and technical solutions to enhance customer value and operational efficiency.
• Make informed decisions regarding work processes, schedules, priorities, and operational plans to achieve departmental objectives.
• Uphold and promote SQDC principles across teams.

Qualifications / Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Electronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related.
• Ten (10) years of experience in high-voltage direct current (HVDC) control and protection system design.
• Work experience to include: HVDC Control, Protection, and Sequencing strategies; Dynamic performance studies and system modelling for VSC-HVDC schemes; PSCAD, RSCAD, MATLAB and Simulink; Translating and communicating customer requirements to drive reference solutions, process improvements, and consistent technical quality across multi-disciplinary engineering teams; Real-time simulation environments for Hardware-in-the-Loop using OPAL-RT or RTDS; System testing including: Integration System Test (IST), Functional System Test (FST), Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT), and Site Acceptance Tests (SAT); and Control system studies and testing, including: Software-in-the-Loop (SIL), Dynamic performance studies, Protection coordination, and Overall system integration.

Location / Work Arrangement

This position allows for a hybrid work arrangement. Candidate may work remotely two (2) days per week, while reporting to the Oakbrook Terrace, IL worksite during the remainder of the week.

Compensation

• For U.S. based positions only, the pay range for this position is $156,229-$207,700 annually. The specific salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including the candidate’s experience, their education, and the work location.
• This position is eligible for 10% variable incentive compensation.
