Description
The Contracts Lead (CL) has overall responsibility for their assigned contracts within Valiant. Working in strong collaborative partnership with the Operational teams and business support functions, notably finance, subcontracts, and legal, the CL is responsible for ensuring Valiant's business, including revenue streams, are protected with appropriate contractual documentation (whether contracts, subcontracts, or others) and ensuring impeccable compliance at all times with all relevant federal references/programs related to government contracting globally. The CL is the point of contact for all contractual communications with the customer, Government agencies (e.g., DCMA, DCAA), and is authorized to obligate the company for matters associated with any assigned contract(s). The CL is expected to drive best practices and innovation into all aspects of the contracting process at Valiant. Strong commercial acumen and confidence, born from deep global government services industry experience, will be essential for success in this role.
Responsibilities
- Leads and manages the Contracts function of assigned portfolio at Valiant ensuring appropriate contractual documentation is in place and that projects maintain full compliance with all relevant contracting laws, regulations, and best practice guidelines.
- Leads customer negotiations, makes recommendations to management to execute contractual documents, and warranties assurance to the customer all particulars in connection with a contract.
- Manages routine proposals for add-ons to existing contract(s).
- Initiates and manages contract close-outs; develops responses to FOIA requests.
- Maintains professional competence by attending specific formal and informal contracts training seminars, company-provided training, and self-sponsored training.
- Reviews contractual documents to ensure adherence to company policy, government specifications and requirements, identifies risks and areas of concern on contract terms and conditions, and provides contractual advice, guidance, and support to all functional areas.
- Manages/administers/negotiates execution of Nondisclosure Agreements, Teaming Agreements, and other legal documents as required.
- Reviews and interprets contract specifications, deliverable requirements, and terms and conditions for incorporation into proposal submittals to customers.
- Monitors contract performance to ensure that all contract terms and conditions are met. Leads responses to customer-provided CPAR.
- Provides pre- and post-award administration of various contracts, including CPAF, FFP, FPAF, T&M, LH, etc.
- Assists in coordinating with other departments on matters related to Contracts, prepares responses to customer correspondence and other requests.
- Reviews contract awards and modifications for accuracy and negotiates changes with Government contracting agencies or Prime Contractors.
- Works closely with Program Operations to ensure contractual compliance and coordinates with Government contracting agencies to obtain clarifications or negotiate changes.
- Coordinates with Program Operations and Finance to resolve any programmatic or financial issues that arise.
- Supports reporting requirements across the Contracts Management function, including customer contract reporting requirements and System for Award Management.
- Researches, analyzes, and prepares reports to ensure contractual compliance within negotiated parameters. Assists in financial analyses.
- Interfaces daily with Program/Project Managers, finance personnel, Valiant Corporate Matrix support groups, and principal customers to achieve program and professional success.

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree or higher; Business Management preferred, with Finance, Operations Management, and a minimum of 5 years related experience in government contracting roles.
- Effective analytical, summarization, and negotiation skills.
- Strong ability to interpret contracts, including FAR/DFARs clauses, and develop sound positions based on interpretation.
- Prior experience with various contract types such as IDIQs, T&M, Cost types, FFP, etc.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for interfacing and negotiating with customers and management.
- Experience drafting contractual and business correspondence for government or client counterparts.
- Ability to work independently and in a team, prioritize assignments.
- Logical problem-solving approach with analytical skills.
- Strong knowledge of federal contracting requirements, including FAR/DFARS and agency supplements.
- Understanding of the Government acquisition process, regulations, and procedures.
- Ability to manage project schedules, changes, claims, and enforce contract terms.
- Willingness and ability to travel as needed (less than 10%).
- Eligible for a U.S. government security clearance.
- Work schedule in Eastern or Central time zone, with flexible hours to support programs in other time zones.
Preferred Requirements
- Current Secret clearance.
- Experience with the Department of Defense.
- Experience with Service Contract Act (SCA), CBAs, and Davis Bacon Acts related to FLSA.
- NCMA certifications preferred.
- PMI, PMP, or CAPM certification preferred.
