Job summary

The Smithsonian Institution seeks an Attorney-Advisor (Contract) to serve as a senior contracting advisor in the Complex Agreements Division, Office of Contracting and Personal Property Management (OCon&PPM). The role focuses on information technology procurements, contract planning, negotiation, and lifecycle management for trust and appropriated funds.

Qualifications

• J.D. degree from an accredited law school and active bar membership in good standing.
• 3–5 years of progressively responsible experience in relevant contracting roles.
• Must comply with ethics and financial disclosure obligations.
• Demonstrated judgment, discretion, integrity, and high ethical standards.
• Strong contract drafting and negotiation skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide expert contracting advice for acquisitions, including specialized contracts and complex financing arrangements.
• Manage complex IT procurements and related projects across multiple stakeholders.
• Lead acquisition lifecycle activities: planning, solicitations, negotiations, awards, administration, and closeout.
• Draft, review, and negotiate contracts, amendments, and performance requirements.
• Mentor less experienced contracting professionals and advise senior leadership on procurement matters.
