Job summary

Washington Conservation Action seeks an experienced writer and editor for the Content Senior Manager role to craft content across channels and guide our media strategy.

Reporting to the Communications Director, you will collaborate with staff and coalition partners, drive storytelling for environmental justice, and support fundraising with content expertise in a hybrid Seattle office setup.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, English, or related field.
  • At least four years of experience in communications, journalism, or media.
  • Knowledge of AP style.
  • Ability to create high-quality content under deadline.
  • Commitment to environmental protection and racial, social, and economic justice.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office suite products.
  • Experience using Word for collaboration and tracking changes.
  • Experience driving policy-focused media campaigning and shaping coverage.
  • Experience in journalism.
  • Experience using InCopy.
  • Experience using Asana for project management.

Responsibilities

  • Write and edit content for print and digital channels with an environmental justice lens.
  • Collaborate on media relations, write press releases, pitches, op-eds, and letters to editors.
  • Author stories for Convene magazine, conduct interviews, draft features.
  • Maintain a consistent voice and organizational style guide across media.
  • Advise fundraising teams on storytelling approaches and content integration.
  • Provide real-time copy-editing for external communications and projects.
  • Maintain a content library for WCA teams.
  • Develop proactive media outreach and secure feature stories.
  • Build relationships with media contacts and coordinate interviews/events.
  • Lead communications planning and project management activities.
