Job summary

ClickHouse is expanding its Support Services team and seeking a Senior Consulting Engineer to provide consultative support to enterprise customers worldwide. The role blends hands-on engineering, development assistance, and high-tier support across Consultative Support, Engineering, and Support.

The position is based in Japan with no office requirement and up to 35% on-site travel to Tokyo, collaborating with Product Management, Engineering, and Sales to shape roadmaps and customer solutions.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in Professional Services, Support, Technical Accounts Management, Engineering/SRE, and/or Project Management roles.
• 5+ years of relevant industry experience in implementing, operating, and/or supporting scalable, fault-tolerant, distributed database management systems ("DBMS").
• Experience with public cloud providers (AWS, GCP, Azure) and their IaaS offerings (e.g. EC2).

Responsibilities

• Serve as a team member on customer projects, focusing on design, architecture, integration, implementation, and documentation.
• Provide case-initiated consultative support to strategic users, customers, and prospects, assisting with implementation, onboarding, production launches, and POCs.
• Provide architectural, technical, and migration assistance, including hands-on tasks.
• Work in Support Team handling L1 to L3 cases and communications when not actively assigned to projects.
• Partner with Product Management, Engineering, and Sales to influence product roadmap and account plans.
• Develop and assist with content such as Public/Internal Documentation, Knowledge Base, and benchmarks.
• Assist with hiring and mentoring new team members.
• Be available for scheduling and on-call needs for 24x7 global support, including up to 35% onsite travel.

We are currently expanding our Support Services team at ClickHouse, which delivers exceptional service to our customers worldwide. We are seeking a Senior Consulting Engineer to join our global team, where you’ll provide Consultative Support to our ClickHouse enterprise customers. The role uniquely blends hands-on engineering, development assistance, and high-tier support, performing functions across Consultative Support, Engineering, and Support. You will work directly with a set of strategic customers, providing guidance, case answers, and technical oversight. Consulting Engineers will also be assisting with support cases for customers in our Support L1 to L3 tiers, particularly when not assigned to larger projects.

Note : We are hiring for this role in Japan. Your exact location within the country does not matter as the role is not office-based. There will be on-site travel to provide in-person support to customers in Tokyo.

Responsibilities:

• Project Engineering & Consulting (50%):Serve as a team member on customer projects, focusing on design, architecture, integration, implementation, and documentation. This includes research, benchmarking, performance and functional testing, reference architectures, sizing, migration, integration, development, and tooling.

• Consultative Support (50%):Provide case-initiated consultative support to strategic users, customers, and prospects, assisting with implementation, onboarding, production launches, and Proof of Concepts (POCs).

• Provide architectural, technical, and migration assistance, including hands-on tasks.

• Work as a member of the Support Team, handling L1 to L3 cases and communications when not actively assigned to customer projects.

• Partner closely with ClickHouse Product Management, Engineering, and Sales to contribute to the product roadmap and account plans.

• Develop and assist with a wide range of content, including Public and Internal Documentation, Knowledge Base articles, ClickHouse Learning, Reference Architecture, blogs, and benchmark results.

• Assist with hiring and mentoring new team members as we grow and scale.

• Be available for scheduling and on-call needs to deliver high-quality 24x7 support in a global, distributed environment, including up to 35% estimated onsite regional travel.

Requirements:

• 5+ years of experience in Professional Services, Support, Technical Accounts Management, Engineering/SRE, and/or Project Management roles.
• 5+ years of relevant industry experience in implementing, operating, and/or supporting scalable, fault-tolerant, distributed database management systems ("DBMS").
• Technical breadth and depth in relevant subjects such as DBMS, OLAP, Cloud/SaaS platforms, distributed systems software engineering, Linux/Unix, Kubernetes, System or Network Administration, and big data.
• Experience leading and shipping large scope technical projects in collaboration with multiple experienced engineers.
• Expertise with a public cloud provider (AWS, GCP, Azure) and their infrastructure as a service offering (e.g. EC2)
