Job description

Arup’s purpose, shared values, and collaborative approach has set us apart for over 80 years, guiding how we shape a better world. At Arup, you belong to an extraordinary collective – in which we encourage individuality to thrive. Our strength comes from how we respect, share and connect our diverse experiences, perspectives and ideas. You will have the opportunity do socially useful work that has meaning – to Arup, to your career, to our members and to the clients and communities we serve.

We are looking for a Senior Consultant to join our fast-growing Advisory Services team, known in the industry for advising and delivering some of the most innovative and transformative projects across the built environment in the US and Canada. We are seeking an experienced, NY or DC-based consulting professional with a background in strategic asset management, strategy, program delivery, or related advisory services, especially for asset-intensive infrastructure clients. Ideally, the candidate will have a broad, integrative skillset across asset management, digital strategy, organizational change, and business transformation for major asset management initiatives. This role will be based in either Arup's Washington, DC, or NY office. Note that frequent travel between NY and DC is likely and travel across the U.S. and Canada will be required.

The role will focus on providing strategic, operational, organizational, capability development, and programmatic guidance to asset-intensive clients, with an initial emphasis on supporting our water and transport portfolio and expanding related opportunities across the East Coast. As part of a regional team, you will also be expected to support projects across the United States and Canada. You will work with public agencies and infrastructure organizations to clarify priorities, strengthen delivery models, improve performance, support capital and asset management decision-making, enable change, provide insights into asset management operating models and effective use of asset data to support broad strategic and operational solutions for clients. The position is expected to combine direct client delivery with regional business development, internal coordination across Arup’s multidisciplinary platform, and relationship-building that reinforces Arup’s long-term commitment to the NY and DC market and beyond.

The Opportunity

  • Serve as a key asset management advisory resource for current regional water and transportation clients, supporting continuity of client relationships and project delivery.
  • Collaborate with clients to understand asset management challenges, organizational priorities, operational constraints, and long-term infrastructure objectives.
  • Lead or support strategic advisory, asset management, digital strategy, business process improvement, improved decision making, and change management engagements for water utilities and other asset-intensive organizations.
  • Bridge across multiple Arup service areas to develop integrated solutions that combine asset management consulting, technical advisory, digital, operational, and organizational expertise.
  • Prepare and deliver insightful presentations to clients, conveying complex information effectively.
  • Engage in client and stakeholder interface activities such as meetings, presentations, and workshops.
  • Work collaboratively within Arup’s organization, proactively leveraging multidisciplinary technical expertise, internal networks, and available resources to deliver high-quality advice and implementation support.
  • Monitor and evaluate the outcomes of implemented solutions, making data-driven adjustments as necessary.
  • Manage multiple client engagements at any given time, balancing project delivery and business development priorities through disciplined use of internal and external resources.
  • Build trusted client relationships through curiosity, collaborative problem solving, sound judgment, and a partnership-oriented consulting style.
  • Grow and cultivate client relationships across water, transportation, and other infrastructure markets, including leading or supporting work-winning activities, proposal efforts, market engagement, and collaboration with regional business development leaders.
  • Develop and maintain strong internal and external networks that support client continuity, regional growth, and access to Arup’s broader advisory and technical capabilities.
  • Act as a mentor, engaged/supportive team member and supervisor to other team members.

The Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, planning, engineering or similar. IAM certification and PMP strongly desired. Lean Six Sigma Green or Black Belt preferred.
  • 8+ years of relevant experience advising asset-intensive clients, preferably including water utilities, in strategic asset management, asset digital strategy, business process improvement, organizational change, or related advisory services.
  • Proven consulting, strategic planning, and client advisory skills, with the ability to translate complex operational, organizational, technical, and financial issues into practical recommendations and implementable delivery plans.
  • Experience working in a consulting environment on asset management transformation, change management, operational improvement, digital enablement, or complex program delivery assignments.
  • Experience with digital enterprise asset management programs, like Maximo, developing asset planning dashboards for KPI tracking and capital planning insights.
  • Curious, collaborative, and partnership-oriented, with the ability to build trust with clients, work across disciplines, and contribute effectively within a matrixed consulting environment.
  • Ability to meet strict client deadlines and track record of successful project delivery
  • Strong commercial acumen and project management experience
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills including effective communication through reports, correspondence, and presentations
  • Interest in providing professional development or mentorship to colleagues
  • Strong interest in sustainable development and shaping a better world in line with Arup’s values.
  • Ability to travel at least 50%.
