Job summary

WSP USA is seeking a senior hydromechanical engineer to lead dam, canal, levee, and water infrastructure projects. You will oversee analyses, designs, plans, specs, and reports while guiding teams to meet schedule, scope, and budget.

The role includes client liaison, progress tracking, and construction support on diverse water projects. The candidate should have a Civil/Mechanical Engineering degree, 5+ years water resources experience, and be pursuing PE licensure with EIT/EI credentials.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil or Mechanical Engineering with focus on Water Resources.
  • 5+ years of post-education experience in water resources engineering.
  • EIT or EI certification required; progress toward PE licensure.
  • Strong knowledge of water resources engineering principles and standards.
  • Ability to lead mid-level teams and enforce QA/QC.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally.

Job description

This Opportunity

Performs technical professional work within T&I Water, leads teams to deliver on all project types involving hydromechanical features, and serves as project manager. Responsible for supporting hydromechanical practice lead in innovation and administration; ensuring corporate compliance with all Local, State, and Federal environmental and safety regulations; and providing pragmatic direction to address current and future environmental challenges in a rapidly-changing and complex business climate. Is able to execute work and lead teams effectively without significant technical supervision.

Your Impact
  • Serve as a senior hydromechanical engineer on dams, hydraulic structures, canals, levees, pump stations, and related water infrastructure projects.
  • Prepare and oversee engineering analyses, designs, calculations, plans, specifications, technical reports, and construction documents in accordance with applicable codes, standards, and client requirements.
  • Manage and deliver project tasks within established scope, schedule, budget, and quality objectives while maintaining a high degree of billability and technical productivity.
  • Support project managers by coordinating technical activities, tracking progress, identifying risks, and assisting with project planning and execution.
  • Conduct engineering reviews of designs, calculations, specifications, permit applications, and technical deliverables to ensure quality and compliance with sound engineering practices.
  • Participate in client meetings, workshops, field investigations, inspections, and construction support activities as a technical representative of the firm.
  • Support business development activities through client relationship management, project positioning, conference participation, proposal preparation, interview support, and scope development.
  • Contribute technical content, cost estimates, schedules, and staffing plans for proposals, qualifications packages, and pursuit efforts.
  • Perform periodic construction observations, condition assessments, and field evaluations and prepare associated technical documentation and recommendations.
  • Interpret and summarize engineering, operational, inspection, and regulatory data to develop practical and technically sound solutions for clients.
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, including civil, structural, geotechnical, mechanical, electrical, and environmental professionals, to deliver integrated project solutions.
  • Develop and maintain positive working relationships with clients, regulatory agencies, contractors, and other project stakeholders.
Who You Are
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil or Mechanical Engineering, with a focus in Water Resources or closely related discipline.
  • 5+ years of relevant post education experience in water resources engineering.
  • EIT or EI Required in any state, and possess required qualifying years toward PE exam and licensure.
  • Proficiency with water resources engineering principles, practices, process, design/build, standard of care, and project work-related issues.
  • Working knowledge of relevant standards, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements, and the business impact upon the organization.
  • Proficiency with making technical computations and calculations involving the application of engineering principles, understanding plans and specifications and making factual comparisons to the appropriate regulations.
  • Works independently and provides guidance and leadership to mid-level team or project members, with strict adherence to QA/QC.
  • Leadership and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to effectively, persuasively, and tactfully interact with employees at all levels of the organization.
  • Proficiency with office automation and communication software, technology, math principles, predictive models, and tools.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Strong ability to quickly adapt to change and demonstrate flexibility to a variety of schedules and hours to meet business needs.
  • Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree in Engineering.
  • Professional Engineering Licensure in CA, MN, TX, or PR.

Compensation:

Expected Salary: $89,600 - $156,600

WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and offer for this position, based on the successful applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location. WSP USA reserves the right to ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and offer additional benefits and other compensation, depending on circumstances not related to an applicant’s sex or other status protected by local, state, and/or federal law.
