What to Expect (Job Responsibilities)
  • Underwrite individual risks for acceptability, pricing, coverage, and terms for the Excess Casualty line of business
  • Analyze claims and loss history to achieve production and loss ratio goals with assigned brokers
  • Develop new classes of business by researching market trends and creating necessary documentation
  • Foster positive relationships with brokers and manage broker conflicts through frequent communication
  • Mentor and coach underwriters, providing guidance and support for professional development
What is Required (Qualifications)
  • Minimum of eight years of commercial lines underwriting experience, particularly with large or complex accounts
  • Strong technical knowledge of commercial lines underwriting policies, practices, and insurance law
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with advanced negotiation abilities
  • Ability to analyze highly complex insurance risks and make sound decisions with minimal direction
  • Undergraduate degree preferred; equivalent work experience will be considered in lieu of a degree
How to Stand Out (Preferred Qualifications)
  • Completion of general insurance courses such as CPCU, CIC, AU, ARM, CPIW, CWIS, or ASLI
  • Experience in excess and surplus lines underwriting
  • Familiarity with facultative reinsurance and various treaty reinsurance methods
  • Strong understanding of alternative rating methods and pricing theory
  • Demonstrated ability to lead projects and work effectively within a team
