Job summary

Hughes Marino seeks a Senior Construction Project Engineer in Columbus, OH to join a long-term engagement with a confidential defense technology client. You will support owners as part of a project delivery team, handling day-to-day construction execution and interfacing with senior stakeholders.

You’ll contribute to budgets, schedules, and document control while coordinating with PMs, clients, and brokers on evolving project requirements. Local candidates preferred.

Qualifications

• 1–4 years of construction experience, preferably as a Project Engineer or Senior Project Engineer.
• Experience with tenant improvement projects required.
• Proficiency in project budgeting, scheduling, and meeting minutes.

Responsibilities

• Support senior PMs in proposals, meeting minutes, contract creation, and client reporting.
• Assist in creating and updating project budgets and schedules.
• Manage document control, change orders, invoicing, and project closeout with PMs.
• Collaborate across multiple concurrent construction projects and interface with clients.

ABOUT HUGHES MARINO

Our Program, Project & Construction Management practice serves as owner's representative and third-party PM for some of the most dynamic companies in the country, guiding clients through complex projects with independent, conflict-free expertise.

We are currently seeking a Senior Construction Project Engineer to join our Columbus team, embedded in an exciting long-term engagement supporting a confidential, high-growth defense technology client.

THE ROLE

As Senior Project Engineer, you will work alongside Hughes Marino's senior project managers serving as owner's representative on behalf of a confidential defense tech client. You will be a critical part of the project delivery team, supporting the day-to-day execution of complex construction projects from the owner's side. This is a hands‑on, high‑visibility role with real exposure to executive‑level clients and mission‑critical work.

WHAT YOU'LL OWN

• Support senior PMs in managing proposals, drafting meeting minutes, contract creation, and client reporting documents


• Assist in the creation and ongoing updates of project budgets and schedules


• Manage document control, change order processing, monthly invoicing, TI allowance reimbursement, and project closeout in coordination with project managers


• Day‑to‑day involvement across multiple concurrent, complex construction projects


• Interface directly with Hughes Marino PMs, clients, and brokers on evolving project requirements

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

• 1-4 years of experience in the construction industry, preferably as a Project Engineer or Senior Project Engineer


• Experience with tenant improvement projects required


• Hands‑on experience with invoice processing, schedule and budget creation and updates, and meeting minutes required


• A strong tendency toward leadership and a solid understanding of the design, permitting, bidding, construction, and closeout process


• Highly proficient in Bluebeam, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, and Microsoft Project


• Sharp communicator, written and verbal, comfortable interfacing with senior stakeholders


• Self‑directed and deadline‑driven, with the ability to juggle multiple tasks and adapt quickly to shifting priorities


• Local candidates only: Columbus and Central Ohio

COMPENSATION & DETAILS

• Competitive base salary commensurate with experience ranging from $80,000-$110,000
