Job summary

Qualus Corporation in Hartford, CT seeks a Construction Manager within the Program Management department to ensure constructability aligns with client quality expectations, complies with codes, budgets, schedules and safety goals on transmission, substation or distribution projects in the Connecticut area.

You will lead field crews, coordinate with customers and contractors, oversee safety and quality, manage outages, and ensure contract terms and specs are met.

Qualifications

  • 20+ years of experience in construction management.
  • In-depth knowledge of materials, construction standards, regulations (OSHA).
  • Experience with electric transmission and substation construction.
  • Ability to request/hold clearances and coordinate crews.
  • Proximity to the Hartford, CT area.

Responsibilities

  • Aggressively manages and inspects day-to-day activities of multiple contractor crews.
  • Facilitates installation of electric infrastructure while meeting safety standards.
  • Manages cycle time and cost objectives and ensures targets are met.
  • Oversees contractors performing cable installations and cut-ins.
  • Notifies federal/state/local agencies before, during, and after construction.
  • Coordinates with customers at the jobsite to determine requirements and sequencing.
  • Maintains regular contact with contractor supervision and documents results.
  • Ensures contract terms and technical specifications are met.
  • Schedules outages and conducts weekly safety audits.
  • Coordinates permit requirements with third party utilities.
  • Reviews and approves contractor documents for accuracy.
  • Communicates job status to stakeholders to support scheduling.
  • Maintains customer coordination during construction and conducts job walk-down.
  • Performs storm duty assignments as needed.
  • Reports to service center, jobsite, or remote location.

Job description

Position Overview

Power your future with Qualus in our Program Management department as a Construction Manager. The Construction Manager is responsible for ensuring that constructability meets Qualus and our client expectations of quality for each assigned project, to ensure compliance within required construction codes, local jurisdictional requirements, budgetary, scheduling, and safety goals. Employees in this role coordinate and oversee safety and quality for transmission, substation or distribution line projects in and around the Connecticut and Western Massachussets area.

Responsibilities
  • Aggressively manages and inspects the day-to-day activities of multiple electric contractor crews, for transmission, substation or distribution line project work.
  • Facilitates the installation of electric infrastructure and ensures that all safety standards, company construction standards, company specifications and governmental regulations are met.
  • Manages work to ensure that all performance objectives for cycle time and cost are on target.
  • Oversees and directs contractors performing electric cable installations and electric cut-ins.
  • Makes the proper notification to all federal, state and local agencies before, during and after construction as required.
  • Prior to commencement of construction, coordinates with customer(s) at the jobsite to determine specific customer requirements, construction sequencing and provides site readiness verification.
  • Maintains frequent and regular contact with contractor supervision regarding job performance and documents results appropriately.
  • Knowledgeable about distribution contracts.
  • Ensures that the terms and conditions of the contract and technical specifications are met.
  • Verifies key unit quantities.
  • Makes the necessary field decisions regarding job changes and communicates them as necessary to the Supervisor and Program or Project Manager; documents all job changes to ensure compliance and ensures the updates get documented in the appropriate information technology systems.
  • Schedules and coordinates all required electric system outages. Performs weekly safety audits of crews and documents performance in the Asset Suite Safety Audit/Observation Tool.
  • Coordinates permit and work-with requirements with third party utilities and permit agencies.
  • Reviews and approves all documents submitted by the contractor verifying the accuracy and completeness of the documentation.
  • Regularly communicates job status to the appropriate parties to facilitate scheduling commitments.
  • Maintains customer coordination during construction phase and conducts job walk-down with customer and contractor at job completion.
  • Performs storm duty assignments as needed.
  • Reports to service center, jobsite, or remote location
Minimum Qualifications
  • Thorough knowledge of company work, environmental, and safety practices, including a working knowledge of electric operations, and the ability to maintain or obtain switching and outage authorization.
  • Qualified to request/hold transmission and distribution clearances and manage/coordinate a crew of several Construction Managers
  • 20+ years experience
  • In-depth knowledge of materials, construction standards, regulations (OSHA), and safety requirements for electric transmission and substation construction.
  • Thorough knowledge of PC and job/work management applications including AS8, Atlas, Mobile Maps & MS Office Suite.
  • Proximity to the Hartford Connecticut area
