Job summary

The Minnesota Department of Transportation seeks a qualified inspector to assist the Chief Inspector on a variety of complex projects, ensuring inspections meet plans and specifications. You will oversee field testing of materials, verify roadway dimensions, and perform complex inspections for grading, base, bridges, and paving operations while reporting deficiencies to the Chief Inspector.

A CDL with Tanker Endorsement is required within six months of placement.

Qualifications

• Valid Class D driver’s license and must obtain a Class B CDL with no Air Brake Restriction and Tanker Endorsement within 6 months.
• Two years of experience in contract administration or related roadway/bridge construction activities; or a combination substituting for experience as listed.
• Educational substitutions may apply per degree types listed.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Chief Inspector on complex projects by completing inspection activities.
• Serve as Chief Inspector on less complex projects and supervise field testing of materials.
• Inspect dimensions and tolerances of roadway features to ensure conformance with plans.
• Perform complex inspections of grading, base, bridge, paving operations, and report deficiencies.
