Job Description

General Responsibilities:

Perform inspection on large, complex, and diverse projects requiring expertise and knowledge in multiple areas of construction inspection. Oversee the work of other testing and inspection personnel.

Essential Roles and Responsibilities:

  1. Perform testing, observation, and inspection as directed, in accordance with training and specified procedures, to determine if work complies with contract specifications.
  2. Read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
  3. Provide clear documentation of findings and results.
  4. Prepare inspection reports and document nonconformance.
  5. Perform basic data analysis to verify accuracy before communication and submittal to the Project Manager.
  6. Communicate information to Project Manager and other personnel as directed.
  7. Interact with clients and site personnel to provide input on resolving findings.
  8. Assist Project Manager in developing scope for testing and inspection services.
  9. Coordinate pre-dispatch activities with Project, Department, and/or Office Managers.
  10. Maintain equipment operation and calibration.
  11. Lead, provide direction, and coordinate activities of lower-level inspectors.
  12. Perform advanced fieldwork and assist with project management.
  13. Follow safety rules and practices; perform pre-task planning; report safety issues or concerns.
  14. Maintain quality standards on all projects.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Associate's degree in Civil Engineering Technology or Construction Engineering Technology preferred.
  • Minimum 4-6 years' experience in construction inspection.
  • Valid driver's license with acceptable violation history.

Required Certification:

  • Completion of related internal safety certifications.
  • At least four certifications from the following areas:
  • NICET Level II in Construction Materials Testing (Asphalt, Concrete, Soils).
  • NICET Level II in Geotechnical (Construction, Laboratory, Exploration, Generalist).
  • ICC certifications in Reinforced Concrete, Spray-applied Fireproofing, Structural Masonry, Prestressed/Post-Tensioned Concrete, Structural Steel - Bolting, Structural Steel - Welding.
  • AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI).
  • ASNT Level II in Visual Testing (VT), Magnetic Particle Testing (MT), Dye Penetrant Testing (PT), Radiographic Testing (RT), Ultrasonic Testing (UT).

Additional certifications may be considered if deemed appropriate by the Department Manager.

*Note: ACI certifications in specific areas are not required if AWS CWI, ASNT Level II, VT, MT, PT, RT, or UT certifications are obtained and concrete testing is not required.

**Note: Nuclear Density Gauge operation certification is not required if other specified certifications are obtained and soils testing is not required.
