Job summary

WSP is a leading engineering firm in New England, seeking a Senior Inspector based in our Glastonbury, CT office to supervise highway, bridge, and rail construction projects.

Responsibilities include inspection of paving, excavation, drainage, and steel placement, with reporting to the Resident Engineer. Ideal candidates hold an engineering degree or NICET/CMIT credentials and demonstrate strong communication and safety records.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor degree in engineering or CMET related field, CTDOT requirements.
  • NICET 3 or CMIT 4 with minimum 4 years inspection experience;6 years optional.
  • Strong written and oral communication; plans and specs reading ability.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect highway and bridge construction operations daily.
  • Interface with contractor supervisors to monitor work.
  • Perform field measurements and quantity calculations.
  • Complete daily reports per policies and procedures.
  • Coordinate material sampling and testing when needed.
  • Monitor maintenance of traffic and safety practices.
  • Photograph work activities to track progress.
  • Inform Chief Inspector and Resident Engineer of activities.
  • Work in year‑round conditions; occasional night or weekend shifts.

WSP is seeking a construction Senior Inspector based out of our Glastonbury, Connecticut office to help oversee highway, bridge, and rail construction projects throughout Connecticut. Depending on experience, the Senior Inspector will oversee work such as roadway paving, excavation, backfill, drainage, traffic control, bridge structural steel and rebar placement, concrete pours, pile driving, utility installation, and other related activities. The inspector will report to the Resident Engineer/Chief Inspector or their designee.

Job Description:

  • Perform inspection of various highway and bridge construction operations
  • Interfacing with contractor’s supervisors to determine and monitor daily work
  • Perform field measurements and calculations for unit price item quantities
  • Complete daily work reports in accordance with policies and procedures
  • Help coordinate independent material sampling and testing or periodically perform the same
  • Monitor maintenance of traffic
  • Take and compile photographs of work activities for tracking daily progress
  • Keep the Chief Inspector and/or Resident Engineer informed on all construction activities
  • Exposure to highway and construction environments and year-round weather conditions
  • Potential for working days, nights, and weekends
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures
Who You Are
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering or Construction Management, or related field, or NICET 3, or CMIT Level 4. (per CTDOT requirements) and high school degree.
  • Minimum 4 years of construction inspection experience. (6 years with NICET 3 or CMIT 4).
  • Strong oral and written technical communication skills.
  • Ability to learn how to read plans and specifications, or the aptitude to learn
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite particularly Word and Excel
  • Valid Driver’s License and reliable personal transportation
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies
Preferred Qualifications
  • Engineer-In-Training certification or Professional Engineers license
  • ACI and NETTCP certifications or ability to attain within 3 months of hiring
  • Hands-on experience with construction management software such as AASHTOWare Project, Headlight, Procore, or similar systems
  • Knowledge of Bluebeam
