Job summary

Kelso Industries seeks a Construction Estimator to develop accurate, competitive cost estimates for industrial, commercial, and institutional projects. You will review drawings, perform takeoffs, price labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractors, and prepare complete bid packages.

Qualifications

• Strong estimating and analytical abilities with attention to detail.
• Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, contracts, and schedules.
• Experience performing detailed quantity takeoffs and developing labor/material/equipment estimates.
• Proficiency with estimating and digital takeoff software such as Bluebeam, Procore, Sage Estimating, ConEst.

Responsibilities

• Review drawings, engineering plans, specifications, bid documents, contracts, and requirements to understand scope.
• Perform detailed quantity takeoffs for labor, materials, equipment, and other costs.
• Develop labor estimates using appropriate crew sizes, productivity rates, and wage data.
• Research and maintain current pricing for materials, subcontractors, and labor to support estimates.
• Solicit and evaluate vendor and subcontractor quotes to align pricing with scope.
• Level vendor/subcontractor proposals for comparable scope and accuracy.
• Identify constructability, logistics, schedule, and site-condition risks impacting cost.
• Incorporate contingencies and allowances based on project risk.
• Prepare clear assumptions, qualifications, and exclusions for bids.
• Prepare complete bid packages and participate in bid reviews with leadership.
• Support post-bid clarifications and scope reviews with customers/GCs.
• Upon award, hand off estimate details to PM and Purchasing with quotes and risk.
• Collaborate with PMs to compare estimated vs actual performance for future estimates.
