Job summary

Mortenson is seeking an experienced Senior Estimator I to join our Solar group in Minnesota. The role leads estimating on large, complex projects and interfaces with staff at all levels, maintaining professionalism and confidentiality.

You will prepare conceptual and detailed estimates, coordinate with design and PV engineering, manage the estimating team, and mentor junior staff. Travel quarterly to project sites; onsite HQ in MN.

Qualifications

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering or similar or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum nine years construction industry experience (renewables, utilities, electrical contracting, large construction preferred).
  • Six years construction estimating experience preferred.
  • Organized and detailed with ability to manage multiple complex projects.

Responsibilities

  • Lead estimating efforts on large and complex projects.
  • Provide conceptual, detailed, self-perform work estimates, and cost models.
  • Organize, research, and plan for estimate preparation, pricing, scheduling, and submission.
  • Determine trade partners for bidding and final estimate pricing.
  • Assign work to estimating team and ensure accuracy.
  • Conduct quantity surveys and cost estimates and review trade partner proposals.
  • Research tax laws, CBAs, and permits.
  • Write and submit RFIs.
  • Maintain communication with estimating team, design phase PV engineering, and leadership.
  • Ensure understanding of project scope and updates among team and trade partners.
  • Research and analyze historical project data for current applications.
  • Assist in project scheduling.
  • Lead, train, mentor, and manage estimators with periodic feedback.

Job description

Mortenson is currently seeking an experienced Senior Estimator I to join our Solar group with the ability to interact with a variety of staff at all levels in an ever-changing environment, remaining flexible, resourceful, proactive, and efficient with a high level of professionalism and confidentiality. The Senior Estimator will provide leadership, coordination, and final preparation of full estimates on large and complex work projects.

Location: MN- Headquarters (onsite)

Travel: Quarterly project site visits

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Lead estimating efforts on large and complex projects
  • Provide conceptual, detailed, self-perform work estimates, and cost models

  • Assign work to estimating team and ensure accurate information is incorporated
  • Conduct quantity surveys, cost estimates, and review trade partner proposals
  • Research tax laws, collective bargaining agreements, and permits
  • Write and submit Requests for Information
  • Maintain regular communication with the estimating team, design phase, PV engineering and leadership
  • Ensure understanding of project scope and updates among team members and trade partners
  • Research and analyze historical project data for current applications
  • Assist in project scheduling
  • Lead, train, mentor, and manage estimators, including periodic feedback and performance evaluations
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering or similar or equivalent experience
  • Minimum nine years construction industry experience (preferred experience in renewables, utilities, electrical contracting, large construction)
  • Six years construction estimating experience preferred
  • Organized and detailed with proven ability to fulfill all responsibilities for multiple, complex projects
  • Proven positive and professional attitude, and strong customer service skills
  • Strong teamwork orientation, initiative, communication, problem-solving, leadership skills, and possess a builder mindset
  • Applicable mathematical and cost analysis skills
  • Proficient with building/estimating techniques and software: Excel, ISqFt, Bid2Win, Bluebeam, Google Earth, PowerPoint
  • Current driver’s license

The base pay range for this role is $128,200 - $192,300. (Actual range is higher for the following office locations: Denver, CO and Chicago, IL – 5%, Seattle, WA, and Portland, OR – 10%, Washington, D.C. – 12.5%)

Base pay is positioned within the range based on several factors including an individual’s knowledge, skills, and experience, with consideration given to internal equity. This position is eligible for Mortenson’s incentive plan.
